Numbers

What do the numbers actually mean? Why does only Hurley notice them?

Also, they add up to 108 which was the time limit in the ‘hatch’

This has probably been talked about ages ago, but i just thought i’d bring it up as they were said on the last episode.

  1. still good to recap al. visit lostpedia and look up Valenzetti Equation.

Hurley is numbers obsessed ever since the episode aptly titles “Numbers” in season one. Given your nickname I would say he’s your kind of guy (?) 🙂

Someone has noted that 108 is the time between flybys of an orbiting satellite. Could pushing the button be related to sending a transmission to an orbiting spacecraft or telecommunication satellite?

What I see as a possible new development is how the number 316 has begun to crop up in the background of episodes this season. Notice the microwave oven at the begining of “Some Like It Hoth” ?

I am keeping my eye open for other recurring numbers this year and will post a follow-up if I see a pattern.

  2. Thanks Andre7 – that website explains quite a lot!

Haha well the nickname was just sort of random- i use al0 and my last name usually but decided i probably shouldn’t give random people my name. But yeah Hurley’s pretty awesome, he makes Lost really funny when all the others are serious.

Not sure about the satellite thing as when they stopped pressing the button it exploded from the electromagnetism stuff in the hatch.

I just looked at the last beginning of the last episode to see the 316. Also i noticed just after that miles goes into flat no. 4 – the first of the numbers. do you know any other times 316 has been in it? Maybe it’s related to the verse: John 3:16 ? Or it’s just put in there for fun 🙂
