The Variable – Dissapointment

Am i the only one who found the variable dissapointing, when i heard bout him revelaing his knowledge of the island i thought ” oh we are gunna leanr bout smokey, time travel, mysteries of the island, healing stuff” etc and we didnt have any of that, infact what did he tell us, bout the inciddent we already knew , he just emphasised it. We only realy learnt bout his mother being an other and mr widmore being his father with many speculated. For the 100th episode and the fact we had to wait like 2/3 weeks for a proper episode i expected much more. I really liked daniel farady and they go kill him off and bassicly saying his life was pointless. I hope he aint dead but i think if he doesnt die it will be like ” oh ben didnt die, daniel didnt die” and no one will believe if anyone acctually dies. Overall i think it could of been better but more action in it and had glimses of the final epsiodes main themes in, i didnt want daniel to die 🙁

Peoples thoughts and opinions please

  1. i liked him too, but i wasnt entirely dissapointed by the episode. i was a little…but there were reveals and definitive answers.

  2. I hated to see him die as well, but it was a powerful moment in Lost and will live on as such. A mother sacrifices her son for the “good of the island” to have to live through that as a parent is mind boggling.

All that time pushing him, making him sacrifice, and telling him there won’t be enough time. She said this because she knew EXACTLY when where he would die. So he had to fit a life times worth of learning into a very short period.

Bad mother? Sacrificing for the greater good? As a father I can not FATHOM sending my daughter off to die. What do you think?

  3. I agree, I couldn’t send my kid (nephew actually) off to die. I was thinking about that last night. I’m thinking that Ellie is actually prego right now. My thinking, If I shot my son from the future, I would stop having sex IMMEDIATELY.

  4. Daniel has already been born at the time when Ellie shot him. That was 1977! Can you imagine, with all that Daniel had done before he arrived on the island in 2004, that he was only 27?

  5. Hmm…so, let’s say in 1977 he was around 11 or 12, playing the piano. That would explain why Ellie was so upset when she goes into the room where he is playing piano. Everything that we are seeing in 1977 had just happened. She had just shot him a few days before. I did not get that. Thanks!!!

  6. If he was shot in 1977, she wouldn’t have had him until 1978… Then in 2004 the oldest he would be is 26… Lets say he graduated from Oxford in 2002. That makes him about 24…getting his PhD from Oxford. I don’t know… I think he’s born already by the time he was shot, which is partly why Ellie had the look on her face that she did and I also think that it could explain why he has an American accent – he was being raised off-island.

  7. Yeah, plus lets not forget that getting his doctorate from Oxford isn’t the only thing he did before he came to the island in 2004. He studied and did extensive experimentation with time travel, trashed his memory, destroyed his girlfriends mind and fled back to the United States…

There must be some way to analyze Dan’s hairstyles to figure out what the year might be…
