The war
Written on 14th May 2009
I’ve had this theory for a while now but the season finale seemed to give my thoughts more strength. I think the coming war is between the living and the dead. When Jacob was sat on the beach at the beginning I beleive the person he was talking to about the loophole was the representitive leader of the dead and can take on forms of the living but cannot make physical contact. Throughout the show there have been clues as to the fact the dead are very much a presence on and off the island such as the whispers, Ben seeing his dead mother, Hurley, Jack and other people’s ability to see and speak with the dead.
The smoke monster, I beleive, is a referee between the side of the flesh and the side of the dead to ensure rules are followed. I think the loophole refers to a loophole within the rules and not within time or space so by getting Ben to kill Jacob he found a way to kill Jacob without breaking the rules of the game.
Did you notice that Jacob gave something or made sure he touched all the survivors he went to see? I think this is also of relevance to this somehow.
This is my first post so please be gentle.

arterymedia, I had the exact same thoughts about this, and wondered if that was why the writers, have always joked about the ‘fictional’ 7th season, being called ‘the zombie season’.
I haven’t thought it all the way through, but I think it is certainly worthy of consideration.
Very interesting thoughts!
