Shoes!

Written on 16th May 2009

Ok I always remembered when the writers used to say “there’s a big thing that people have missed in the pilot episode”. Sure I’m sure they said that for the same reasons that they debunked “Time-Travel” but still I think what they were referring to was Christian Shepard’s Tennis Shoe hanging in the tree when Jack first wakes up.

And yes, I’m fairly certain most people have noticed it and considered its significance but what bugged me about the past few episodes regarding Locke, in whatever form, is the unnecessary backstory of Jack and his father’s shoes. It seemed a bit like misdirection to make a typically boring Jack flashback/forward about his Uncle (or Grandad can’t remember). I think the whole point of the flashback was to highlight that Locke would be wearing someone else’s shoes.

I know its lazy that I can’t really be bothered to analyse the consequences of it, but I did find it strange that when Locke suddenly comes back to life we have a scene of him paddling in the sea with no shoes on. Most people believe that it is certain that the same person impersonating Locke impersonated Christian Shepard on many occasions, and lets just go with most people’s view that its a smoke monster taking their form.

I think the issue lies in that the smoke monster had an original form and the size of it’s original feet is significant. I think when impersonating someone it uses clothes that it has but the shoes don’t fit or SOMETHING, i dunno.

I think this could be a key to the viewer checking who is impersonated or who is not by whether the person is wearing shoes that we see them in before, or if they aren’t wearing shoes at all, until smokey can find the right size for this person.

Well…now that sounds pretty stupid, but just a thought 🙂

  1. I have a decent shoe theory. The theory is that jacob, the “smoke monster people” and the “others” (ie, Richard & Friends), want to be in phisical contact with the Island, for some spiritual reason.
