My Theory :D
My theory is that…and I do apoligies as I am not good with writing things down 😀
Jacob obviously can heal people, as he brought back Locke when he fell out of the window, his touch restored his life. Now I think that the other person who was on the Beach with Jacob, (who I shalll call Frank), I believe Frank has the ability to take the form of a dead person which he has been tryng to figure out how to do for a long time, until Christian Shepherd came to the island dead, he then found the way how to do it.
I also belive that Jacob and Frank have a contract between the two of them, stating something to the effect that they cannot kill one another for what ever reason. Expect every contract will have a get out clause (THE LOOPHOLE), as when they was on the beach Frank said he really wanted to Kill Jacob but obviously something was stopping him, Jacobs says have you found the loophole yet (or something to that effect).
We also know that Christian Shepherd had told Locke (i belive could be wrong here haven’t watched the earlier seasons for awhile) that he has to die or leave the island and die. I belive this was actually Frank setting his plan in motion to get the loophole in the contract to kill Jacob.
We also know that is was Locke (Or Frank as I belive he is) who told Richard to go and tell the Locke who had the bullet to his leg that he had to die, which would that make it able that Frank then can be Locke.
Later when Ben sees his daughter, I dont believe this was his daughter, but Frank in the shape of his daughter, as they told him to Follow what ever Locke said or she would get him, which would later come in handy when Locke says he needs to kill Jacob.
Now, Locke or Frank as I believe it is, cannot let anyone know who he actually as, so if he just got Ben and took him straight there they wouldn’t believe he was who he is, he needed to act on a little, this is why he pretended not to know that this was where Jacob lives.
Also notice how he doesn’t really care about getting the others back because he is obviously not Locke but I think he is Frank.
When they are inside, I belive Jacob knew it wasn’t Locke but was Franks, otherwise why would he say, you figured out the Loophole (or something to that effect) to him, it obviously links with what he said on the beach with Frank. He then gets Ben to kill Jacob, when Jacob says the others are coming, I am not sure what he means by this, he could mean that the Losties in 1970’s are coming back or they are coming inside the temple (or if you think like my dad does, that the rest of the aliens are coming, maybe its takent this long for them to find them)
Now with Juliet and the bomb…I think this could pan out a number of ways, I think it will have caused the incident, or got them back to the original time ( I still believe the would have crashed there as it was alrady preordaned to happen) Or this could have been what the fail safe key was and Juliette could be like what Desmond was like, but everyone would still be back to there normal time…I’m not to sure about this last bit though. 😀
I completely agree with your theory about Frank being able to take on the form of other people. I like all of the reasons you point out for why this is so. I’ve always felt that the smoke monster could form into other people, so I also agree with some peoples’ theories that Frank is the smoke monster. One thing that other people have mentioned that as me convinced of this is that when Ben is judged by the smoke monster, ‘Locke’ leaves to get rope, the smoke monster comes, the smoke monster leaves, and ‘Locke’ comes back without any rope. And when Alex appears, it seems fitting that it was the smoke monster taking on her form.
I’m wondering whether this ability is only limited to dead people though. I would like to think that all of the hallucinations of other people the losties have had are a result of Frank turning into other forms. But I know people have seen Walt in hallucinations and he is still alive.
I have a feeling Juliet setting off the bomb is going to somehow bring them back to 2007. Somehow Jin and Sun are going to reunite, so he has to jump forward or she has to jump back. It makes sense that he would jump forward so they will all be in ‘present time’ again.
I Like your theory, but i think it has a few holes (sorry for picking at them). if Frank or the smoke monster is locke, then how does he know that Jacob has never contacted ben and that ben has given his life to the island with no return and a dead daughter. Also if frank was Christen why couldn’t he convince ben to kill Jacob. also couldn’t he inhabit any of the other dead bodies on the island and convince ben, most obviously Alex his only daughter. And i have just realised that i am talking about a unnamed man who can inhabit dead bodies and his aim is to kill Jacob by convincing someone else to kill him because he cant due to some sort of a loophole,
Again looking back didn’t”frank” kill Jacob by kicking him into a fire.

I like your theory. But I just posted about how it jsut seems too obvious that Jacob is the good guy and Frank is the bad guy. However, it is very convincing but I cant help but think that the writers or Jacob himself just want us to believe that he is good. If its a religious them than it would seem Jacob is God and Frank is the devil. But the devil is tricky, a desciever, a manipulator, and he was oh so cocky towards Frank on the beach. So this is my only issue.
I think someone else mentioned it earlier, but the dead people ‘coming back to life’ or whose forms have been taken on by Frank have been unburied. This could be why the Others and Dharma have been so fussy about not just killing each other and leaving bodies lying around. What if Frank has been waiting all this time for an unburied body to be left lying around to set his plan into motion. Then Christian fall from the sky. It was Christian who told Locke to die – then Eloise tells Jack to bring Locke back (is she working with Frank).
On the point of how Frank knew how to manipulate Ben – if he is smokie – we know Ben has had things to do with the smoke monster, so would know exactly how abandoned and ignored Ben feels – being easily led to a point where he would be prepared to kill Jacob (easy for him to blame Jacob for all the things in his life that haven’t worked out how he would’ve liked.
Just because Frank can look like dead people doesn’t necessarily mean he is bad – we really don’t know enough about who has do what and why to know that yet.
