He’s no Alpert Einstein (more like his brother, Frank).
It appears as though time travel is something more or less confined to just a few people and probably only occurs as a consequence of 815 crashing and the subsequent events.

Sometimes I think that Richard plays dumb. He doesn’t let on that he knows as much as he does. On the other hand, I think he is Jacob’s puppet. He follows orders without thinking for himself. When has Richard Alpert ever offered an opinion that was his own, not Jacob’s?
Richard I think is unknowing to some things on the island to follow what I feel should be the others creed, “Ignorance is bliss…”.
I think that they are the polar opposites of the DI in a way. They want no progression through scientific means, nor the knowledge that comes with it.
If the DI stays on its own island turf, the others dont really care what they do.
Its the Losties that cause so much of the problems that we learn about, much through the Dharma recruits, and through the hatches, things that the others and Ricky want no part of.
Unless something directly threatens the island, Richard and the others steer clear.
And if you think about it, select Losties know bits and pieces…but not nearly as much as us, the viewers know. We take for granted sometimes that we see soooooo much more than the Losties actually do from our outside perspective.
With the time traveling going on, its sometimes hard to differentiate between what one (especially Richard) person knows in one time period, to what they know in another.
I disagree for many reasons. One is that… you don’t know what is going on in Richard’s head?? He might be playing dumb!! It also seems as if Jacob is a very secret person! What… do you think Richard secretly looked at his diary or something?? Richard is not dumb, and maybe… just maybe he hasen’t seen time travels or anything like that!!!!!
