Who did Juliet shoot?

A question that just iritates me so I have to ask it and put it ‘out there’

Locke, Sawyer, Juliet and co. steal a dug-out canoe. They start paddling around the horn of the island to get to the orchid. They realise they are being shot at by a mysterious group of individuals in another similar (identical?) canoe. Juliet returns fire and being a crack shot, in addition to a Judo expert and god knows whatever else, she hits someone in the other canoe.

The question is: Who do you think she hits and why did the other group fire first?

Bearing in mind that there was a bottle of Ajira airlines water in one of the canoes… Has she in-advertantly killed Jack or one of the Oceanic Six returned to the island? Were they trying to prevent Lockle from reaching the Orchid and stopping the shifting or going off the island?

  1. I would first say that the people in canoe include Ilana and Caesar.

I feel they – being the only two non-main characters in first class – were hired by Widmore etc. on a similar mission as Keamy. Keamy was instructed to killed anyone and everyone who got in the way of his mission. Maybe this is a similar thing.

My only problem with that is where do they find the guns? This leads me to believe that it could be Kate, Jack, Hurley and Jin in the canoe as Jin has access to a gun or guns. My problem with this theory, however, is that the losties/O6 – ESPECIALLY with Jack there – would not shoot on (poor) sight. Also, we know that the island is not finished with the O6 (unless it is once they got back), so the bullet would have to hit someone who could die, or be non-lethal to a character like Jack.

So who’s to say the shooters aren’t just Others, other than Juliets “No” when Miles ask if those are her people. Others have access to guns, have good shots (mostly), and when the flash happened they dissappeared. Had O6 members been on the boat would they not have time shifted as well?

So ultimately I have no set response, I have a problem with almost all of my theories.

  2. Another quick question…

Where did the canoes come from in the first place. They remind me of the one Carl uses to cross over from the Alcatraz island. Are they different enough from that one that we can say the canoes are indigenous to or alien to the island?

  3. Hi Andre7, I am inclined to think along the same lines as cappayne on this one.

I think it’s too difficult to call, not knowing what time frame, the people in the other canoe who were shooting at Sawyer, et el, were in.

I wondered how Juliette could be so certain it wasn’t her people who were doing the shooting!

Juliette knows exactly where, and when they are!

  4. I agree that Juliette either knows the time they are in, or she knows that the Other’s wouldn’t have missed 25 straight shots.

It’s just that she respoded “No” so quickly and confidently. How else can she know this for sure if she does not know more then she’s letting on.

  5. Sorry, just to add. If Juliet does in fact know where and when they are, which we think, then she would probably have an idea of who is on the other boat. Sure she asked Miles “Are they [your people]?” but this could be simply to make her sound as confused and scared as they are. She also doesn’t seem too worried. After watching Sawyer’s paddle get shot for 2 seconds, Sawyer has to yell at her for help before she even responds to the shot, as if she doesn’t feel threatened.

Also, the fact that she shoots back tells us something; that she has no problem killing the members of that boat, or at least shooting at them. So she either knows the people on the other boat are her enemy, or she knows that she can’t kill them.

But we do see what looks like the stern of the chasing boat act like he/she gets hit.

    I’ll leave it at that.
