The ‘Sun’ God…
Ok, I have been alluding in some theories that the statue that we saw this season, and the foot earlier may be non other than our lovely Sun.
I base this on minimal information, but just some quick facts I remember, and what is going on now on Lost…First the Lost part…
Sun is the only member of the O6, that was on 316, that didnt flash…I think that her reason may be slightly different than the others not flashing, with the exception that she did not bring JiYeon with her to the island…I am still a firm believer, that the reason not everyone flashed, is because they didnt follow Jacobs/Christians/Hawkings instruction to bring everyone back to the island…meaning to me, that everyone involved with 815…but thats beside the point, and for another time…
On to my Sun is the statue idea.
Many ancient cultures, including Egyptian, which gave me the idea, from Dabs post, at some time or another worshiped the sun as a god. This can be found on may sites online about religion and myths.
That is not the meat of my theory though.
In Christian mythology, the sun was worshiped as well. The book the Davinci Code, Im using this as a reference, not a factual point, alludes to people worshipping the “sun” of god…which was converted into the “son” of god… meaning Christ. This may or may not be true, but it makes sense in a twisted way.
I take this idea and apply it to lost. Lost is great for covering many religions and mythologies in a single bound. This being said, why not take the worshipping of THE sun, into the worshipping of “Sun”. There is a great theory I have been commenting on that goes beyond my belief of Lost, and acknowledges that science, holds ground over faith on the show…which I agree with to a certain extent…please read…”Science not faith” by Lostitute… a fantastic read, please do if you havent already…one of my new favorite theories here.
I dispute that faith will prevaille, but not without a fight.
I think Lost may go this route, and explain many religious standpoint that we and human history have come to know and believe…but I still believe in faith over science in the end.
Sun has a long journey ahead of her, and I think that journey may entail turning the wheel, or at least time travelling to ancient times.
She will ackowledge to ancient culture on island, that she is Sun, and will be related to the sun, and worshipped as a god. I cannot explain the 4 toes thing with this, I will admit, but as for the rest of it…why not.
Would this make any less sense than it being anyone else. It will follow the storyline in a way, of Suns long journey, and tie the statue into our losties.
This would also add a little irony, that Jin was the one to notice the statue first, from behind I might add, and that Sun plays an important role not just on Lost, but in the history of the worlds religion.
She is very angry right now, and I dont think it something smiled upon by the ‘Lost gods’.
Much of the story of Lost, at least the beginning, is based on everyones anger controlling and dictating their lives, in a very negative way. Understanding, confession, and redemption are a way of life for the Losties on island…and Sun is now at a point, where she may have to start all over again.
As I said, not much to go on but a few references, a couple of plot points, and my imagination, but a viable possiblility in my mind.
I figure why not the only person we know for sure that conceived on island be in the long run, a very important an influential figure in the worlds religious history…
Have at this , I know there is something I am forgetting to add, I always do…but really think about it, and tell me who could make more sense…
LOL, I guess if its looked at in a different light it makes sense, but I am truly trying to cover all bases with this.
Religion, in terms of a god or gods. Faith, in terms of her believing in finding and reuniting with Jin.
Conception, immaculate or not, conception no less. Science, in terms of an actual explanation for ancient culture naiveeness (Is that a word?) toward understanding, and taking something “as simple as time travel”, that just sounds like an oxymoron, and perceiving it as something entirely…not wrong persay, by their standards, but different…
..and not to mention just a simple fun way for me to flex my creativity and imagination here…
Ok, someone destroy this before I start believeing in it too much….

Just wondering, has Richard ever interacted with Sun? I can’t remember it if he did. But since Richard seems like he has been around forever and would likely know about all the mythology of the island I would love to see them meet.
Richard freaks out and bows down to her, or freaks out and realizes she is who the statue is modeled after!
love it…
love it too…..
The statue is a man. There was a strict “dress code” for Egyptian statuary, and guessing by the level of detail the show’s art directors have gone to in using real heiroglyphs, I can’t see them botching that up. The statue is topless, wearing the short ribbed “skirt” wrap that men wore and is wearing a fairly typical headdress which gathers in the back into a faux “pony tail”. You can look up photographs of King Tut’s sarcharphagus to see the headdress from behind.
AES, This is a great read, and one you presented nicely.
After watching tonight’s episode, I am even more convinced that Sun will play a pivotal role in the story. I have a couple of very good reasons for why I say this. This is, aside of your theory, evidence which may support your thoughts.
We learned that Christian told Sun to wait for John Locke! Not anyone else, but John Locke, who we know after this episode, has definitely been chosen by ‘the island’ to represent its interests. Not Richard or Ben, or ‘the others’, but ‘the island’ itself. Of this, I am convinced.
I was reminded a couple of days ago, that the Lost writers love the book The Stand, by Stephen King and have written elements of that book into Lost. Anyone who has read it, will know that it represents the battle between light and dark, good and evil.
Sun conceived Ji-Yeon on ‘the island’ but gave birth off island. I think this is significant, as you say.
I think it is also significant that Claire conceived off ‘the island’, but gave birth on ‘the island’.
These two conceptions and births represent ‘polar’ opposites! light vs dark.
When the writers say that Lost will focus on the children, I have to believe that Aaron and Ji-Yeon are very important to ‘the island’ and whatever is going to happen.
On a side note, about the Son of God, Jesus is referred to as the ‘light’ of Christ. Plenty of references.
I enjoyed reading this. Perhaps the statue has four toes because Sun has four toes…has anyone noticed if she does? Since statues are usually constructed identical to the object/person/etc. it is portraying, why not?
By the way — AMAZING EPISODE TONIGHT!!!!!!!
When ben moved the shelf in his house there was a god head hanging from it… Looked like Thoth… Had an ibis head
henrygale, nice catch! I couldn’t get a close enough look at those!
I caught what was on the wall in the Temple. Anubis, with a jackal who is a tribute to him. Anubis is the God of Mummification!
Am I nuts, or were there several ‘eye’s on the walls?
I’ll have to go back and watch tommorow but Thoth was in charge of judging the dead
And ya I did see the anibus in the room the smoke monster came from
I would lke to add to this something.
I have been parading around saying that the reason Sun didnt flash is because they didnt bring everyone back…Not to take away from what I started here, but…
Ben tells her that if she ever gets off the island, “Tell Desmond Hume Im sorry”…
1)Sorry for what? Killing Penny…Charlie?
2)Could this mean Sun goes back for everyone, and they sail back on Des’s boat, with a dead Penny and an old Widmore to boot…I pushed this in my “Penny for your thoughts” theory…minus the Sun…
AES, I did notice ‘the eye’ on the walls also.
I had a difficult time with what Ben’s meaning was. He didn’t kill Penny because of her child. It reminded him of what Charles had ordered him to do with Danielle and Alex.
He just couldn’t carry it out. I think his statement to Sun, reflects the remorse he feels for contemplating the act, even though he never carried it out. He truly frightened Penny and she pleaded for her child’s life.
I believe Desmond will return, sans Widmore, but who knows. Desmond & penny would only hate Widmore more, for what almost happened to their child.
It is possible that Penny will accompany Desmond to ‘the island’. The incident with Ben, may have motivated her to accompany Desmond.
Like anyone else who returns to ‘the island’, it will be without young Charlie.
Don’t be so quick to throw this theory out the window just yet. I think you are onto something. Remember, the children ARE the future.
I agree with Dabs that Ben felt remorse for even contemplating the act. He also tries to shoot Desmond too, (I don’t know how he missed, Actually I don;t think he missed, just the island still needs Desmond) which would be a good reason to apologize.
Sorry for shooting him, and trying to kill penny…. Also whose in the body bag?
Desmond was shot… When he was punching ben he was using one arm.. So I guess the other was hurt.. Looked like he shot him in the shoulder
Ben lies a lot.
I thought the bullet bounced off..ala “Did the gun jam, or did the bullet bounce off your head?”
It’s an interesting thought… I’m a huge fan of Sun and I’m glad that she seems to have a big role to play on the show…
Her name being a reference to a sun god would only be for our benefit. If she went back in time and told people her name they would not make the connection between her name Sun and the English word sun. She would actually have a ton of difficulty communicating with people who exist before the English Language. Korean might have been around but probably not well known outside of Korea… I think people in Korea would have been speaking Chinese still at that time if they were there at all. If they did speak Korean then she could tell them her name is Tae Yang (
I like NMB thought that was added…
“Just wondering, has Richard ever interacted with Sun? I can
But, should we rule out Charlotte? Yes, Everything I think about the show tells me that she is dead, but she would be the ideal candidate if you needed something accomplished in an ancient civilization. Remember, she knows more about ancient Carthage than Hanibal himself.
HurleyBird, I think we can safely rule out Charlotte in the sense that we may only see her back story, which could provide relevant information.
AES, good question! Richard Alpert is somebody who has not interacted with too many other characters on the show. Having said that, neither has Sun!
I am thinking that if there is reference, Richard Alpert can be an incarnation of RA, and Sun could also be an incarnation, or perhaps Ji-Yeon.
I think it may turn out that it is not quite as literal, but most definitely related. This would answer many of the questions people have surrounding the believability of the characters.
We must not forget about CantonRainer, Reincarnation! Huge element!
