The Apprentice

Firstly I would like to say a huge well done to Emzi for making this site. I have just come across it during a search for a Lost site to replace the old favourite LT. I am actually excited to see who is here and what new theories are being proposed about our favourite show! I recognise a few names on here so ***waves madly*** a big hello to old friends too.

So let me just jump right in with my first theory 🙂

I was rewatching S5E4 last night when I got to thinking about Ben and Widmore and their connection. It was really the storyline with Kate, Aaron and the lawyers that set me thinking about this. I think that the

A doyen of the LT site, The Missus is overjoyed to have found this site peopled with old and new faces, and like-minded individuals. 1. Welcome to the site Mrs Sawyer 🙂 Nice to have you here.

Do you think that Charles has had some interaction with Jacob then? Could it be that Ben wanted to be the only one who could communicate with Jacob and somehow Benipulated Charles into leaving the island?

Now that they’re both off the island it’ll be interesting if Charles can find his way back. Maybe it’s the first person to make it back who becomes Jacob’s “apprentice”.

What about Locke? Is he a candidate?

  2. Hey Emzi thanks for the welcome!

To answer your question yes I definitely think Charles (as a youngster) has had some interaction with Jacob. I think we were meant to draw some pretty big parallels between locke and Widmore…

“Nobody knows this island better than me”

Maybe Widmore was being groomed/raised as the next Jacob UNTIL Ben arrived on the scene. And perhaps the same could be said of the transition from Ben to John if you see what I mean.

So once there was only one potential candidate and now there are three. That’s why all three have, at points, been banished from the island.

  3. Nice one mrssawyer.

I agree Widmore seems to think he’s in line or entitled to something that has to do w/ the island.

I wonder if all who we saw on the island are candidates for such.

    Tonight baby!

  4. Hi Mrssawyer

That may explain why there seems to be rules in the way Ben and Widmore deal with each other. If they were left to there own ruthless natures one would have been killed a long time ago, however if they are following a superiors game plan or an organisations rules of engagement they would have to show the restraint they do

I think Widmore CAN surely die, but when Ben say’s “You know I can’t do that” when Widmore asks if he is going to kill him, it is because by Ben killing Widmore he loses his shot at becoming the next Jacob.

That is why Widmore remained so calm in that scene, NOT becuase he knew he was immortal, but because he knew that Ben wanted nothing more than to get back to the island and become something, and he would not sacrifice that chance by doing something that would be against the rules.

This is why Widmore wants Keamy to “capture” and not kill Ben, because he as well does not want to break the rules of Jacob’s apprentice game.

And when Alex was killed by Keamy, Ben must have thought that it was against the rules to kill family as well. So he says “you changed the rules” (possibly directed at Jacob?) So then Ben confronts Widmore saying he will kill Penny. However, this brings up a problem as we know that Ben does not have a biolgical paternal relationship to Alex. So maybe the rules were not changed, and by killing Penny he may be breaking the rules?

I’m just spewing out random gabble now, but I think it is important to this discussion.
