Did they know who he really was?

Just been reading a theory by Emzi titled: Was Ben supposed to be leader?

Now if you’ve already read it you will see that Emzi brings up the question of how Alpert visits Locke as a baby as Locke told him to whilst hopping through time, also that maybe Locke in a future time hop tells Alpert about Ben. My question/theory is as follows.

Does Alpert view Locke as a type of Prophet informing him of future leaders i.e Locke and Ben on false information?

After all Locke’s knowledge is really quite limited compared to Ben’s of the island and the background scenes. Locke tells Alpert that Jacob sent him and that he is to be leader of the others. Who told Locke this? i think it was Ben in the Orchid, and we all know Bens track record of honesty especially towards Locke.

We know that the selection process starts from a very young age, well in island time this could be in your teens (anyone guess who im leaning towards?) as it does seem that special people i.e Alpert haven’t aged or have a slower ageing process than others. There is

  1. The question remains, why do they need a leader in the first place? Is it to find the person that has special abilities for a special purpose? What is the leader’s purpose? Has there always been one?

  2. For both of you, username, check out my theory “unique marriage proposal science/religion” for a possible answer at least on what my view of some of the others/losties could be, to maybe help on the why question.

BigD, check out my “Walt red/white shirt/cap” theory, to feel my pain on the Walt situatiuon.

Not exactly answers, but a start maybe.

  3. We definitely haven’t seen the last of Waaaaaaalt but it is my guess that the emphasis will be more on the fight (for want of a better word) between Aaron and Walt.

  4. I think it was pretty clear there was something wrong with Walt by normal standards. In re watching Season one and two Walt is a creepy bugger. His adoptive father is downright afraid of him, throw in the bird thing and you really have a freak fest going on.

I used to think that it was like the Twilight zone where Walt was conjuring these things up in his mind and causing them to manifest themselves in the real world. See the Polar bear for example. Was this simple foreshadowing of what was to come with the bear, or was this a case of it was in Walt’s head and he subconsciously made it happen?

  5. Its a good idea, But, I’m not sure it will be relevent to the outcome of the show. Walt was taken because he may or may not have some special abilities and as Richard said the selection starts from young. But then he was let go so this either means he wasnt leader material or he wasnt yet ready to be. Which is a recurring thing, Ben wasnt ready at first and neither was Locke. So unless they time travel to the future i doubt Waaaaalts leadership will be relevent.

A side note, if people were selected to come on the island from 815 i think Walt was one of those selected and Michael was kind of strung along.
