Locke is still dead, kind of
I believe that Locke is still dead, kind of. We know he died. We saw Ben strangle him. Then, all of the sudden he is alive again on the island. This is inconsistent with any of the other deaths we have seen, Eko, Charlie, Boone, Shannon, etc. Well, except for Christian, but I think he is still dead dead, not just kind of dead. He can appear and disappear at will. It does not appear that John has that ability so I do not think that their “resurections” are the same.
Here is what I think.
I think that Richard is kind of dead as well and that is why he does not age. I think that Richard knew John had to die because he too, once had to die, only to come back to life on the island. I think John is now ageless along with Richard and he will help to rule the island along side Richard. This is really just pure speculation, but it makes sense to me. Let me know what you think.
I agree that John is now like Richard and that they both went through something similar to be in that state. I just hope John doesn’t start wearing make-up…
I love this theory, it fits in with my idea that the island is an ancient “fountain of youth/eternal life” kind of place and that’s why Widmore, Ben, et al., are vying for control of it. Just continuing this line of thought, and remembering that the producers/writers stress the redemption theme, then was John finally redeemed and his reward is eternal life on the island? I’d still like to know why the O6 had to return and how this will help in the “war” that’s coming?
(BTW, I’m sure Highbrow is joking about the makeup–but I read somewhere that Richard/Nestor Carbonell isn’t wearing eyeliner. Amazing eyes, no?!)

The only problem with the “fountain of youth” thing is that it doesn’t work for everyone. Ben, Alex, and Danielle all aged while on the island. I think it has something to do with the island bringing you back to life, for whatever reason.

BennyTN, I think Locke’s resurrection is something different to the state of Richard Alpert. He is still quite a mystery to me. But, in terms of him being ‘dead’, that might just be true!

They all died on island, Locke died off island. I believe this is important.
