How is it that Ethan as a young baby survived the purge to begin with? We see in the last episode Amy tells Lafleurs that she decided to name her kid Ethan. We know nothing on Lost is a coincidence so please tell me, whats the deal!?

Well we know Ben switches over to the Others. And we know the Others have an obsession over children. So why not?
If the math is correct(timetravel aside), then William Mapother was 39 years old when he first played a 27 year old Ethan. Yeah the writers are stretching a bit, but sometimes you have to suspend disbelief and just say he was 27. I mean Maggie Grace played a 17 year old girl in her last movie.

Ethan managed to look like a 40 year old doctor when he was apparently only 20 years old. He’s magical.
