He is special?

In an interview with the actress who plays Amy, when asked about the identity of the child, she said “I can’t reveal the identity, but you will find out soon. All I can say is the baby is someone special.” Or something like that.

So other than being the first(?) child born on the island, why is/could Ethan be special?

  1. I don’t think Ethan was the first kid born on the island or people would have made a bigger deal about it. I think they wanted to avoid lawsuits (or perhaps problems w/country of origin) and birthed the babies off the island. [I think there wasn’t a problem having babies on the island until AFTER the purge … I think ‘the hostiles’ protected themselves against the purge with some agent that caused the morbidity issues. Alex was born there 4 yrs. before the purge … do we know how old she was when Ben took her? I’ve always assumed as an infant, but I don’t know why; perhaps because Rousseau took baby Aaron to trade.]

Ethan is here/there/everywhere … not someone you really cared about. Isn’t that special.

  2. That’s why I had the “?” I wasn’t sure if he was the first born on the island.

But my question was why did the actress say he was special? From what we know he is just the average Other.

  3. I question the fight scene between he and Jack. Watch the speed Ethan displays. I often wonder if this was just a thing at the beginning of the show to add to the others mystery, or if Ethan was some freak of nature. He just seemed incredibly fast and agile compared to Jack. Dont get me wrong, Idont know if Foxy or Jack has a real good fight in him, but he never had a shot against Ethan.
I also have put an idea out there, that in the scene in the ‘constant’, when Des approaches Faraday at Oxford, about the man Faraday is speaking with. It is obviously one of his students, but it just seemed the conversation had a lot of meaning to Dan. I know its not the same actor, but I wonder if it is Ethan. He resembles him, and Ethan pops up all over Lost. I figured with his appearance earlier this season we were not done seeing him.
Either way, I find both scenes rather odd.

  4. I wanted to touch on what you said about him destroying Jack. I also wonder if that was to make the Others seem like super humans or if Ethan is in fact a powerful dude.

  5. He’s a “powerful dude”. Yet another kind of ‘special’ person to the island, with some ‘special’ ability. And each ‘special’ person is unique in their ability, thus ‘special’.

    Does that make sense?
    Just a thought.
