To whom DOES Richard answer?

To whom DOES Richard answer? Maybe the thread’s question is relevant wrt the end of “What Happened …”

“You shouldn’t do this without asking Ellie. And, what if Charles finds out?”

Alpert: “I don’t answer to either of them.”

  1. I was just thinking exactly the same thing.

A very good question that i can’t wait to find out the answer to, when we do i think it will help answer alot of other questions.

In roman times the legions were far more faithful to the generals than ceasar. I think this was due to the fact of different factions eg Julli, Bruti, Scipia etc.

I think that the others (legions) are led by Alpert (general) but he sort of loans power to the leader i.e Ben , Widmore etc If however the leader isn’t upto the job then Alpert takes back his troops and lets the leader dwindle away.

He leaves the politics and judgement upto Jacob/The Island and just does whats best for everyone. He doesn’t answer to Ellie or Widmore as he knows they have no real power over him to punish him in anyway as (IMO) he’s been faithful to the Island’s needs and to the others. So my answer to your queston would be he answers to the Island and or Jacob. Hes on the board of director’s but he’s not the managing director. I hope i made sense there 🙂

  2. I’m not sure if its Jacob because Ben said only he can speak to Jacob, but then again – I believe Jacob isn’t the top dog, he is from the Black Rock I think. He is definitely a person. I think Richard answers more to someone else.

  3. Well in ‘Jughead’ Richard makes reference to a chain of command.

‘We all answer to somebody’ I think he says. ‘You understand a chain of command, don’t you?’

He is probably near the top but not at the top. The board of directors metaphor is an excellent one.
