John is special, if for no other reason, than the drawing of the smoke monster as a child…that, and all the other reasons I stated when this was a comment on my post….
HurleyBird, I totally understand where you are coming from, in terms of John Locke.
He has frustrated me to no end, so many times. He has done things, which have made me question, what on earth was he thinking when he did them. I literally wanted to throw something at him! lol
What bothered me the most, was his complete vulnerability and naivety when it came to his father and Ben.
In saying that, Locke is very smart. You almost have to overlook his shortcomings to know that his heart is in the right place and he is trying to do all of the right things. He is not an evil-minded individual.
Locke, at least admits when he gets it wrong. He has enough humanity within him, to accept it, and adjusts his line of thinking accordingly. He embraces the lessons he learns, and moves on.
Perhaps, he had to undergo a complete transformation to truly understand his purpose. I hope we will see great things to come from John Locke, in the future!
Personally, I couldn’t bear to see him get ‘foiled’ again!
john had a terrible life, and should have trust issues, yet trusts people. he began walking on the island immediately after landing, which richard tells him is the reason the others are excited about him, its what makes him “very special”. maybe the swan being destructed was necessary and good. he has actually destroyed many dharma relics, which to the others were bad (the swan, the flame? and the sub. and he heard jacob.
Maddening how John incorporates all the good and bad a human being is capable of. In Season One who guides Boone to an awareness that he needs to break off his twisted relationship with his half-sister? Who helps Charlie through his withdrawal from Heroin? Who helps Claire build a crib and self-confidence about bringing a new life into the world? Who reaches down and literally pulls Jack up from the brink of death? Who goes hunting to feed the people? Not just once but day after day? Who befriends Walt when he needs someone to look up to, but hands Vincent over to Michael so that he will get all the credit of finding the dog? Whose visons bring them to the Swan in the first place?
For all the screwing up he does Locke is also a positive guiding force for the survivors of Oceanic 815. You cannot fault him for having his own agenda sometimes.
Yeah, I don’t know why Ben would be up to anything less than trying to kill him yet again.

Have to admit though, would be a great twist to hae John just be some guy who is wrong all the time. But I just dont think it will be the case…
