Quarantine?

Another post about Desmond and the Swan sparked my memory of something that hasn’t been brought up much. What about the protective suites required for exiting the swan? How about the fact that quarantine was written on the inside of the door? If Radzinsky was the one who built it why would such things be in place? Does it have anything to do with the purge?

I’m expecting/hoping they’ll get to this soon but any speculations in the mean time?

  1. Very good question. Let me post a counter-question:

If (we can assume) Ben does not know about the Swan, then how does the Swan know about Ben?

In other words, if Ben did not wipe about the resident(s) of the Swan during the purge because he did not know of its existence, then how do the Swam members even know there was a purge? I’m pretty sure there are no cameras in it.

Could it be possible that these suits were a “drop-off” – like we have seen earlier in the series – that came with supplies and a note saying that they must now be worn at all times? That could explain the suits, but the “Quarantine” that was on the inside of the door… could that have been hand-written, or does it look like it has always been there?

  2. Well, the suits weren’t necessary and Kelvin at least knew that. He was wearing the suit to keep Desmond from wandering out because he didn’t want Des to catch him fixing up the boat.

It could all be a part of some procedure they follow when they lost communications with the other stations…
