Is John Locke linked to Osiris?

Written on 11th April

This is more of a question and thought as opposed to a theory. I think, as do many, that the Egyptian references and the frequent occurrences of Egyptian symbols will play a large part in summing up the mystery that is our beloved show, Lost. My question is: does anyone think that there is significance with Anubis ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis ) and the possibility of John Locke depicting Osiris ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiris ) ? Wikipedia, although sometimes flawed in its claims, reads, “Osiris was later associated with the name Khenti-Amentiu, which means ‘Foremost of the Westerners’ a reference to his kingship in the land of the dead. ” We know that there is a special “energy” ( if you will ) that surrounds and follows John around the island while he goes on his little expeditions. It of course started with him regaining the use of his legs and can also be seen in the numerous times that he should have died but managed to pull through. There will obviously be a large part for John in the ending of the series. Going back to the quote from Wikipedia though, the line “Foremost of the Westerners” seemed to jump out at me. The island clearly has a plan for John and it has weeded through the rest of the people that luckily/unluckily landed on the island. This quote alone would have meant nothing but there is more: ” Typically he [Osiris] was also depicted holding the crook and flail which signified divine authority in Egyptian pharaohs, but which were originally unique to Osiris and his own origin-gods, and his feet and lower body were wrapped, as though already partly mummified. ” Again, legs partly mummified? Cripple……? Also ( i may be going out on a limb for this one ), “Since Osiris was considered dead, as god of the dead, Osiris’ soul, or rather his Ba, was occasionally worshiped in its own right, almost as if it were a distinct god, ” Could the “worship” of John’s death pertain to our Losties in America going back to the island which was set into gear by John’s death? Remember also, John “HAD” to die…
Well, these are just some thoughts. I was bored and thought I’d share some basic ideas. Please feel free to tell me I’m an idiot or leave comments that may help us fans piece more of this beautiful puzzle together.

  1. This is a valid connection, and so are the other Egyptian theories, but until we see some evidence of the show having to do with Egypt plot-wise, and not through objects that we see, I don’t see how any of the connections are relevant to the story.

    Interesting find.
