Charlie is actually Charlie
I have the sneaking suspicion, partly based on the knowing look Penny gives when Des tells her he’ll never go back to the island — that Penny and Des’s son Charlie is in fact Charlie — the very guy he tried to keep from dying over and over again. My theory is that when Ben wants to say sorry to Desmond, he is actually apologizing for the killing of Charlie in the Looking Glass.

While the notion is intriguing, I think your theory is a little too pat. To me it is more likely that Desmond has named his son in homage to a person he feels respect for and who was willing to sacrifice himself for others.
Another logical explanation for the name is that the child’s name refers to grandad Charles Widmore. Desmond seems to be a bit of a suck up to the old man. Part of him would still like to see a reconciliation between daughter Penny and father Charles.
and ben said “desmond will know what i mean”. i doubt desmond knows this young charlie is the same charlie he saved, if it were true
I don’t think “sorry” would cut it when you’ve killed someone’s son. He’s sorry because he shot him.
JackNeedsAHug, It has been confirmed that young Charlie was named after young Charlie Pace, and not the hated father of Penelope Widmore.
I think Ben is sorry for what he attempted to do to Penny.
I agree with the last few posts–I definitely think it’s confirmed that little Charlie is a homage to Charlie Pace. And besides, we see Charlie as a young boy–and he grew up in Manchester with his family, not in Scotland on a boat. I think he would remember Desmond if he lived with him as his father for three years. You don’t forget things like that, even if you were only three. And I think Desmond would have been a little more “woah!” if he’d met his son all grown up in a time warp or something…
Patches killed Charlie by using a grenade on the window in the room that flooded, not Ben.
It also seems unlikely because everyone else only aged 3 years, but that would mean Charlie had to age much more than that and that would mean a whole ‘nother story about how Charlie ended up so old. It would mean he’d already been on the island, and his complete lack of knowledge about the place indicates that he’d never heard of it
Charlie has his own family and childhood memories of his family, that never included being adopted. And it would be really hard to forget that Jake and Kate were your parents once, let alone meeting Sun or Ben.
Jack and Kate are not Charlie’s parents, either of the Charlies. Charlie is the son of Desmond and Penny
