Critical Error With Season 5 Storyline
I have discovered an error that the writers of Lost have made after watching Episode 13, “Some Like It Hoth”. Those who have seen the episode know that it centers around the Miles story arch. We learn through flashbacks how and why he came on the island in season 4. As you all know, Miles and crew are currently stuck in 1974 when the Dharma Initiative was still operating. In this episode Miles is sent on an errand by Horace to retrieve a dead body at Grid 334. We learn through flashbacks that Miles is capable of communicating with the deceived. He discovers that the dead man is named Alveriz and that while digging a hole, “a filling from his tooth yanked right out of its sockit and blew through his brain”. This brings us back to the beginning of the first episode in season 5. If you have seen it then you will remember that an incident occured while the DA were building the Orchid station. After Dr Pierre and work crew leave the drilling sight we see Daniel Faraday, dressed as a Dharma construction worker, entering the scene. Daniel looks down at a dead man being carried away with blood stains on his face similar to those of Alveriz which leaves me to believe that the dead man himself is indeed the dead Alveriz that we see in episode 13. So if we know that Daniel Farraday does not come back to the island until the end of episode 13 after Alveriz is brought from the Orchid station to Miles’ van, then how come in episode 1 we see him dead on the ground in the Orchid station as Daniel enters the Orchid Station which I know surely happens after he gets on the island? After all you have to get on the island first in order to enter the Orchid station do you not? The timing just doesn’t make sense to me.
I have also discovered that in episode 13 Hurley, Miles and Dr. Pierre are driving to the construction site of the Orchid. Upon arrival Hurley see’s a man welding 4 8 15 16 23 42 onto the hatch door. How is this possible if they are parked at the Orchid. We know that the hatch door is the entrance to the Swan, not the Orchid. Was there a second hatch at the Orchid that we don’t know about? I doubt it.
Thanks for your time fellow Lost fans.

The guy Daniel sees earlier this season was injured when he by drilling close to the “energy source” down in the Orchid. That all happened before the events of last week’s episode.
And Pierre, Hurley and Miles drive out to the where the Swan is going to be to drop Pierre off. That is when they see the hatch door.
ummm. i think you need to rewatch the first episode. or maybe i do. either they brought that guy to the orchid and staged his death there to scare people or some junk… or more likely it was someone else. im pretty sure he had a different problem and wasnt even dead…
also miles and hurley are no longer at the orchid when the numbers are being put into the metal. they went back to the swan.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re just mixing up the locations here.
The scene with Daniel was down in the Orchid for sure and if I’m not mistaken the Alveriz guy was found in the Swan location, not the Orchid. Remember back in season two when Jack and Desmond were arguing over whether the whole “electromagnetic” thing was true or all just a social experiement and Desmond used the argument of “I dunno about you brotha but my fillins feel mighty painful walking by that patch of wall”–its the same sort of situation. Where they’re drilling in the Swan station there’s a huge source of electromagnetism which acts like a super-magnet. While drilling in the Swan station, Alveriz must’ve gotten a little too close or drilled a little too deep and thus–his “fillins'” get ripped through his head. The symptoms of the guy in the Orchid station were different. They said that all the drill bits “melted” and then that guy who was drilling started freaking out–we don’t even know if he died or not. The description of Alveriz according to Miles was that he was “digging a hole” (not drilling underground) and then felt a funny sensation and everything went black–it’s definitely not the same guy or the same situation. The point with those two deaths is that Dharma is starting to realize the extremely strange properties of the various island hotspot. I might be wrong there but either way–they have to be different situations.
And ecko and nmb are right about the second part–they were clearly in the Swan location when they saw the hatch door. They were coming from the Orchid and dropping Dr.whats-his-face off the Swan. So it makes perfect sense.
To NMB: How is it possible that it all happened before the events of last weeks episode (13)? If Daniel Faraday comes back to the island at the end of episode 13, then how can he have entered the orchid station as he sees the wounded/dead guy on the ground before he even gets on the island. That is what I am presuming you are trying to say is it not?
And I apologize about the mistake in the second part of the thread. However I’m pretty sure that I’m right on the first.
KateyIsLOST: I guess if you look at it that way, then it could all piece together. Maybe we will get a name of the guy who died down at the Orchid station when Daniel Faraday goes down there, as we see him do in episode 1.
I believe faraday in the orchid happens after he comes back… They were showing us in the future at that moment… Or it just happened before dan left the island
Yeah, it either happens after he returns to the island or it happens before he left. Which by the way, we have no idea when he left, so it’s possible either way. And the two injured parties are different.
It most likley occures when they first arrive, leading Dan to realize something that could help to save them and Charolette.
They are at the Swan, Hurley even remarks that it is “…our hatch…”, meaning the first they went in and lived for a time, before Des turned the key.
