Many of my thoughts for this theory have elements of them expressed in other posts, so sorry for any redundancies!

appledouble, as much as I am attempting to stay away from any direct references to religion, I must say that I absolutely love this theory for the elements of symbolism and mythology that you played upon!
What I think you have likely nailed down, is the actual essence of what ‘the struggle’ actually is.
Having said that, I am not certain who I would place as being good or evil, in terms of Jacob and his nemesis. That may just be a personal thing for me at the moment, but it does not detract from your theory!
Regardless if Jacob is ‘the good guy’, and his Nemesis, the bad guy, or vice versa, you have made a very clear case, IMO.
I like how you addressed Determinism, Fate and Free Will.
It is evident that the characters represent all of the flaws that most human beings are challenged with, and the personal obstacles and struggles they are faced with to overcome.
You are correct, the Lost writers are brilliant story tellers, and are doing a superb job at illustrating mans’ frailties and shortcomings, in addition to their innate ability to be redeemed.
I will look forward to reading more from you in the future!
