The Goddess Ammit ….

I read someones comment about ABC & the writers of “Lost” can sometimes have dif views on the way some ideas or visuals are viewed by us. That statue can be anything. The Egyptians combined many of animals or whatnot to make a God and the statue could very well be a “whatnot” the writers made up. I’ve got to throw my guess in…why not the Goddess Ammit? She has the head of a crocodile, body of a lioness & the bottom and legs of a hippo. The description of her that i have is that Ammit was the “devourer of the hearts of those who had done wrong in their lifetime, therefore denying them life after death”. Sounds like what the smoke monster does. Anyway…could be Taweret, maybe her baby bump isn’t showing yet. But to me, the statue def has a crocodile face. I hope the statue is important next season, maybe not. @ least all of us are up on our Egyptian Gods & Goddesses now! By the by..love this site!

  1. Hi Savannas, interesting post! So far Tawaret, Sobek and now Ammit are all plausible figures for who the statue might actually represent. Whats more about Ammit is that when she devoured peoples hearts that had done wrong in their lifetime it blocked their access to Aaru, effectively they had to die a second time. How many people have died on the island? Eko,Anna Loucia etc. Maybe all of these people had done wrong.

It says on wikipedia that Anubis (the smoke monster) weighed peoples hearts against a feather from ma’ats head dress? Dont know where Ma’at comes into it but the weighing seems to go along with judgment like we have seen with Ben and the smoke monster.

Back to the point of Aaru, this was the paradise Egyptians believed people would go onto if their heart weighed the same as Ma’ats feather.Only then could they start the ‘perilous’ journey to Aaru, from here they could live for eternity.

Most interestingly Aaru was envisaged as a SERIES OF ISLANDS! These islands were covered in ‘fields of rushes’, much like the vegetation on the island.

Im getting into this too much…vegetation pfft.
