More questions about Locke and Alpert season 5 ep 15

Here is another thing I am having some trouble with.

they happen between the 2 different/same scenes where Alpert is taking the bullet out of Locke’s Leg. The first scene is in season 5×01 around 30:33. The second scene is in 5×15 around 22:40.

I'm a lost junkie. My 3 favorite characters are Desmond Hume, Hugo Reyes and Frank Lapidis, in that order. Not a Huge fan of Jack. In fact he annoys the Pi** out of me. I wish he hung out with Locke more, he would probably be dead... just like the writers intended, lol. Favorite episode was "The Constant." Love Texas Hold'em. one of my emails is: holdemcaulfield@hotmail.com

  1. Ok, Richard Alpert met Locke in 1954 who told him he was from the future. Richard, being skeptical at first didn’t believe him but when Locke disapeared in front of his eyes he had him intrigued.

In 2004, after many visits to Locke off-island, Locke finally becomes the others leader, and when Ben turns the Donkey Wheel Locke disapears again, much like the first time Richard met him.

When Locke arrives back on the beach in 2007 Richard is obviously intrigued. Sure, he must’ve known that during that time Locke would’ve gone back in time, but it has been 3 years. I think Richard was more intrigued by the amount of time Locke has been away, not the fact that he’s time travelled.

    Now, with the compass thing.

In 1954 Locke came to camp and gave Richard a compass. Richard has never seen it before but when Locke disapears he keeps hold of it.

In 2007 Locke asks Richard if he still has the compass, and of course he does. Locke tells Richard that he needs to give it his past self (the Locke injured at the plane). He does this not because Richard in 1954 will recognise the compass, but because that’s what he did when Locke was injured at the plane. He remembered what Richard told him and therefore had Richard say the exact same thing so that nothing would be changed.

Then the injured Locke disapears again right in front of Richards eyes because this Locke is the Locke that time travelled when Ben moved the island.

  2. You have to look at it all from Alpert’s perspective.

In the 50s a man walks out of the jungle demanding to speak with Richard. They have a chat and John jumps through time, disappearing right before Richard’s eyes. Richard then goes to watch John’s birth. Later he visits him as a child to preform a test. Seemingly unsatisfied by the results, he leaves. He attempts to recruit John again in highschool, but an emotional Locke rejects his proposal. Then in the 70s Richard runs into Jack and they have a conversation about Locke. Richard seems skeptical and Jack tells him not to give up on John.

For a long time I thought that Alpert had all the answers, but “Follow the leader” made me pull a 180. I think Alpert has been following John’s life based on some pretty strange encounters. To Alpert, it probably seems like John has all the answers or at least some.

As for the Flash not being present in the 2nd instance of John and Alpert’s jungle rondevu, it would appear only those who are being effected by the jumps witness the flash. To anyone else who might be around, the person simply appears to vanish into thin air. So, the first time we see the scene it’s from John’s perspective as he is jumping. The second time around we are in the shoes of Imposter Locke and Ben, who would be observing jumping John and would not be privy to his POV.

  3. cool, thanks everyone for giving me some perspective on that, i like both of your thoughts, i totally agree about the flashes.
cant wait for season 6. not sure how i will make it week to week once it starts!!! LOL
