Canidates?
Hi all. New here. Love reading all the theories. Lots of good points and ideas floating around. I woke up this morning for work with an idea running through my head. This is almost certainly just speculation but I thought it was very intriguing. I read recently on here the post about Carl being brainwashed and how the one slide said “God loves you as he loved Jacob”. This got me thinking. What if Carl was being groomed to being a replacement for Jacob. This makes sense to me because Carl is killed by the mercenarys. Bare with me. After Alex is killed Ben confronts Widmore and tells him he broke the rules. Certainly for killing alex so he attempts to kill Penny. What if also Widmore had done something that in this time loop per se had not been done before. Therefore breaking the rules. So by Carl being killed there needs to be another canidate for Jacob presumably to take over. This may be Lepitus as it was asked if he was a possible canidate or it may be someone else. Just thought i’d throw this out.
Carl is a curiosity. From where did he come? There weren’t many ‘other’ kids that age. We know Alex was abducted. Was he?
Leaders to date all born off-island. (Widmore, British. Ben. Locke.) Jacob’s been around since Black Rock – no evidence he’s replaced.
ian, I think you might be onto something! At the time, I didn’t understand what Ilana & Bram meant by referring to Lapidus as a possible candidate!
Candidate for what? However, what if they were aware that Jacob was going to need another physical body to take up residence in.
Although, Lapidus may seem to be a very unlikely candidate, you never know!
I also was never satisfied with how Carl’s birth and parental background were never explained.

yeah…karl is a big unexplained mystery to me. He didn’t seem to have parents, yet he was the same age as Alex whose parentage turned out to be a big deal. You’d think that could have been explained. And the brainwashing thing? Why such an isolated incident?
I’ve also been thinking about the “God loved you as he loved Jacob” line for a while. interesting post.
Okay, and appearantly Walt was taken to room 23 as well. So maybe he was a candidate. There really are no clues as to what the candidate is for, so speculation is all we have.
I’ll echo the sentiments about the origins of Karl.
Wow. Very interesting. I never thought of the “candidate” as being the next physical form of Jacob. So that leads me to think, that Jacob might not have actually died, just his physical form. Very interesting. Which leads me to ask, if Nemesis took the over Locke’s body, how come there still is a dead Locke’s body?
Remember the hot air balloon that Henry Gale used to crash onto the island? I’ve been thinking that maybe Carl was also on that balloon, captured by Ben and converted into an other. Maybe Carl has some special abilities that we have not seen yet

“Nemesis”, is, I believe, smokie. And smokie has been known to form itself into the image of any dead body on the island. It does not embody them per se, it becomes them. Room 23 is one of the underrapreciated mysteries yet to be solved. (As are the numbers. Some accept the Valenzetti equation as an answer, I see it as an addition to the number link with evil.)
I’m not sure we can say that smokie can take the form of any dead person. It looks that way, but it isn’t a given.
hey ian. im liking your thinking here. very interesting and well done. yes i agree that karl is another one of losts big mysteries. we dont no anything about him really do we? other than he was alexs boyfriend. i remember when i first saw the brainwashing episode i think we were all like ????? what on earth is going on here,haha. ben told alex that he didnt want her to get pregnant. but knowing ben, that could almost certainly be a lie. ben could of been trying to keep them apart for very different and much more important reasons? bravo ian and thanks for the blast from the past,haha. theories on lost is a great website, my favourite by far. theres some great ideas floating around isnt there? you do relise ian, that once you have posted something you will be well and truely hooked, haha.eko rocks

I don’t think Jacob and MiB will take over people’s bodies, but the people will be showing traits of Jacob and MiB that cause them to conflict. Jack and Locke will definitely conflict, but I think they will be themselves influenced by Jacob and MiB(not impersonated by Jacob and MiB).
