Season 3 Clue about the Island Moving

I believe that the season 3 finale gave us a clue that the Island was moving that seems to have been missed, or at least not mentioned here. When Naomi calls the freighter you will notice that the display gives a location just west of South America. This location seems to be confirmed in the first episode of season 4 when we first see the Lamp Post; the location shown on the phone can be seen on the terminal Ellie is using and is seen on the map when we see the full view of the Lamp Post later in the season.

  1. Dabs, it’s hard to tell exactly but it would seem to be in the same general area as Rapa Nui (Easter Island). This is assuming I’ve got my geography right.

  2. Achalli, Here is the really cool thing that may make sense about Easter Island.

Bikini Atoll is where the US military was detonating H-bombs in the 1950’s. I am not sure (location wise) is between Easter Island and Bikini Atoll, but wonder if there is some connection in proximity.

I don’t know my Geography well enough on these areas!

  3. when the O6 get rescued, are they found on an island near fiji or is it me?

(sorry, not finished rewatching S4 or S5 yet so i may be thinking of something completely different!)

  4. I_Am_Jacob, I know that they came ashore west of Fiji but I am unclear about whether Penny’s boat brought them there or if that was the approximate location of the Island at the time they left.

  5. Dabs, I just looked at a map of the location of Rapa Nui and compared it to an image of the Lamp Post’s map. There is one mark that is approximately northeast of Rapa Nui and west of the coast of South America. There is another mark that is west of the coast of Mexico and Central America that I believe coresponds better with the image on the sat phone when it is used by Naomi. I’m actually surprised that no one else has caught on to this before.

  6. Achalli: Can you direct me to the screencap of Naomi’s Sat Phone that you are looking at? Because, all of the screencaps that I’ve ever seen the signal appeared to be centered in North America, California coast area around Los Angeles and not South America.

But, I guess if that’s the case this would still be true because if compared to the Lamp Post images the island would definitely be moving.

  7. Elsewhere, I was watching the first episode of season 4 on DVD. The scenes in question are in the recap at the beginning, I paused the dvd to examine it. If you then watch the last scene of season 5’s ‘The Lie’ you can see that one of the positions shown on Ellie’s monitor coresponds to that on the sat phone, in particular the one west of Mexico. When we finally get to see the whole floor map the same position appears on the map.

  8. Achalli: Thanks, I will have to check out those scenes!

Thanks, my avatar is an ambigram from the book Angels and Demons. But, I have the feeling you already knew that! lol!

Can I ask… what is your Avatar? For the life of me I can’t figure it out. It kind of reminds me of the “Eye of Horace” that’s been somewhat deformed and floating in space.

  9. Elsewhere, you are correct that my avatar is an eye floating in space, I had to crop it some as the original picture is larger. It was something I stumbled on that I thought looked cool.

You’re right that I already knew where your avatar came from. I thought that Angels and Demons was a much better story than The DaVinci Code.

  10. Achalli: Cool, maybe I don’t need new glasses afterall!

I agree, Angels and Demons was better than The DaVinci Code, and the books were much better than the movies. If you ever have trouble falling to sleep… put on The DaVinci Code movie. Works better than sleeping pills.
