Naked Desmond…
So why did Des come out of the hatch naked after it was destroyed? It makes no sense. Did Des survive? Or this Des from another life brother? Why does he always say, “I’ll see you in another life brother!” Is des aware of the fact that different realities are constantly revolving around him. I think he may be. I don’t think the des that came out of the hatch, after it exploded is the same Desmond who entered it.
If you want to borrow some FRINGE for a minute – I’d say Desmond might very well be from “another life” – like little Petey Bishop.
I always wanted to think that when Richard took little Ben to be “healed” – all he really did was pluck the copy of little Ben from the parallel universe accessible via the temple – but then I thought it was weird that the plucked version had the same gunshot wound.
Eloise Hawking told Desmond the only great thing he’d ever do was to push the button – but she admitted to Penny in the hospital after Desmond was shot by Ben that for the first time in a long time she didn’t know what would happen. She also told Desmond the island wasn’t through with him.
Therefore – Desmond shall go back to the island and do something even greater than push the button. He may or may not be naked while doing it. He may or may not be Adam.
One thing to ask yourself is this… did Desmond disappear, relive his life and reappear naked on the ground? Or did Desmond disappear at all? In the first case, Desmond’s mind leapt back in time, lived in his past for a little while and then returned to his body after it was “purified” by the Incident. In the second case, Desmond’s mind left his body to relive his life but didn’t leap back… it stayed there. What if Desmond’s “powers” come from the fact that he has actually lived his life an infinite number of times, with the Incident being both the beginning of that loop and the end? What if the Naked Desmond is finally free from an eternity of making the same bad decisions? And what if his tagline, “See you in another life brother” is because he is vaguely aware of this… enevitable nature of his life?
I think Desmond may in fact be more then vaguely aware, it may just be one of those cases where a person can’t say what they know to be true because everyone else will think they are crazy…
I think it was a subtle hint by the writers towards the time travel that we would see in later episodes. Terminator anyone?

In regards to “I’ll see you in another life”, Jack repeats this to Desmond on Penny’s ship, also Nadia writes this on a photo she gives to Sayid. It is casually said by another one of the character’s as well, but I just can not remember who and when right now (and it very well may be that I could be mistaken)
Good theory, the vaccine helps you remain conscious while traveling through dimension. Claire was also taking the vaccine… brings up an interesting point.
