Lost Theory – Final Thoughts
I remember an episode of The Prisoner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner where this woman (who you think is initially bad but is good is in the village of the organisation that keeps the Prisoner) thinks she did the right thing but gets tricked and used into leading to the Prisoner to get caught and interrogated again. She gets invited to sit down at a table of an old man playing a game of chess at the end of the program and the old man says to her creepily ‘We’re all pawns here my dear…’
So I feel that all the characters of Lost, or players, are played by powers who want ‘The Battle’ as Charles Widmore described as coming, to be won, Sayids encounter with Inman who also encountered Desmond led me to this theory…
This led to me really understanding how Lost works – I think. Lost is based on Eqyptian and Greek mythology where ‘gods’ often play against each other, also literary works are heavily featured (Ulysses by James Joyce which is another name for Odysseus (Trojan horse fame) who was husband of PENELOPE who’s enemy was Poseidon or Neptune, god of the seas – Charles Widmore uses the sea as his passage to the island, freighter, submarine etc, Jacob living under the statue of Taweret (god of fertilty -Juliet) which was destroyed after 1977 which was probably the ‘incident’ and led to children not being born with the Others now trying to find out why children die and capture children from the beach to restock themselves, protect Richard Alpert and in so doing, protect Jacob.
Jacob ‘pushes’ Jack into his island role by giving him an Apollos (god of healing) bar, Bes is a dwarf god and linked to Taweret who is comic, brings luck (or bad perhaps) and music – Hurley with his qualities and his discman, Jacob who has a bible name (nemesis is Esau who sold his birthright to Jacob through trickery/conning) and brings in the Others on the Black Rock to play this game with MIB to protect Jacob (Richard Albertson was captain of the Mary Celeste and initials RA is was god that was against Apep who often took forms of a snake (black cloud) and was married to Taweret, we see images of this in the smoke monster’s temple and John Locke as a child draws a snake-like picture to Richard) and fight the MIB and his changing forms, so we can see that gods or ‘powers’ for want of a better word here, are at play.
Ben said an interesting thing to Charles when he woke him up in his bedroom, – Charles- ‘Are you going to kill me?’ Ben – ‘You know I can’t do that Charles’ why? And why couldn’t The Man In Black kill Jacob on the beach? Well Eqyptian mythology states that gods can’t be ‘killed’ they just attain a different form or power (a bit like Obi-Wan when he was ‘killed’ by Darth Vadar).
Manipulation, trickery and conning are a big theme of Lost, all these interlinked characters are manipulated (Inman who gets Sayid to interrogate his commander in Season 2 is the same guy who Desmond replaces and gets Des to ‘push’ the button, Kate’s ‘dad’ is also seen with the two), all are bad and need atonement (all the ‘good guys’ we know were prepared to kill Dharma guys to blow up Jughead at least), all need a role or power in life, most have Nemesis’s like gods or superheros – Jack and John, Ben and Widmore, Jacob and MIB) most get what they want on the island, desires and wills get worked out for bad or for good.
What’s also important is Daniel Faradays time explanation that destiny – events of the future – can’t be changed but ‘variables’ such as decisions can alter events that make up the future. Powers put things in place but the players ultimately sway the winning or losing.
I think this is basically the cracked code of Lost, I’m suspecting the numbers explanation will be crowbarred into the finale as they were initially just a plot device to get Hurley talking to French bird I think. Remember, the writers can write what they like!

One word : no .
