Will they be able to leave the island again?

Ok, so the O6 is back on the island in order to save the rest of the Losties (they think). But before they went, did they somehow think of a way to be able to leave the island again? Otherwise it seems a little reckless to go there again…?

  1. But at least Kate should have thought of the need for a way to leave the island and get back to the outside world and Aaron once she had found Claire?

  2. TawretsAnkh,

Good point on Sun with having something to go back home to. Is that really the reason she’s the only one in 1997 though? It doesn’t seem cut and dry enough. You might be right, but I don’t know.

I like the topic. Did they really ALL want to go back so badly that they didn’t think about a way home? If they were going back to the island to save everyone, like initially stated, they would have a plan. They all went back for selfish reasons though aside from Sun. Jack had to escape reality, Kate’s just fickle, Hurley’s done lying, Ben’s just doing his job.

  3. Did they have time to cook up a plan for their return? Wasn’t it all kind of last minute? Even if they did, what would they plan to do? Pack a canoe?

  4. Well, at the time, they knew the show was only being filmed for another season and a half. Once done, they could leave Hawaii by air-travel back to the states.

I’m not really sure what the problem is here, I thought it was kind of obvious on how they would get home.

  5. Don’t you know that the show is a loop? They’ll be filming the same series with small variations forever, a bit like the Simpsons intro when the sit down in the sofa.

  6. He might want to leave now but he wasn’t planning his escape from the island when he got on Flight 316.

If Ben leaves the island by turning the wheel then I see that as how the show is going to end… we see some kind of resolution, two people taking the place of Jacob and black shirt guy (if Locke were alive I’d say Jack and Locke), Ben turns the wheel and the last thing we see is the island disappearing.

  7. The Others (ie Ben, know the correct bearing to safely sail away, I assume they have more boats besides the one they let Michael use to escape after his betrayal and the one they kidnapped Walt on. If Desmond does make a comeback, I assume it would be on his boat and maybe they hitch with him. Just a thought, or maybe they never leave.

  8. As someone pointed out, this is Jack’s hairbrained scheme, so no planning needed everything will work in the end (when all else fails, just remember it’s a tv show)

  9. The points about Sayid having nothing to go back to are true, but I think it is just that he wanted nothing to do with the island and its memories at all.

  10. Didnt ben (i think) say something along the lines of ‘take what you need because you wont be coming back’ to jack?

If so (i may have dreamt it) then i think he knew there was no returning.. Maybe he didnt tell the others though, so hes the only one who knows theyr all stuck there.. This is why Jack is an idiot.
