Why a Flash Forward?
I have seen a few people mention that the Alternate Universe/Timeline we’re seeing is a Flash Forward, but I’m interested to know how they came to that conclusion.
It’s 2007/08 on the island. Both Jack and co. and Flocke and co. are in the same timeline now. We know this because at The Temple where Jack and co. were they set off a warning firework to which Richard saw at the beach were Flocke and co. were. Also, Danielle died in 2004 and one of The Others happened to mention to Kate and Jin that the trap they found couldn’t have been one of Danielle’s because she had died 3 years earlier.
So, if what we’re seeing in the Alternate Universe/Timeline is a Flash Forward does that mean it’s past 2007/08? If so, why? And why don’t Jack, Rose etc. recognise each other? If this was a Flash Forward they would surely be aquanited with one another.
Please help me understand your views on why this is a Flash Forward rather than an Alternate Universe/Timeline.

Perhaps they all took a bath in the healing bath and forgot everything they know? Just kidding…
I believe the idea is that these 815 LAX-landed events are still in 2004, but an alt 2004 that has been created from further in the future.
IE To use good old Back to the Future, it’s like going to 2015 created future events that allowed Biff to go back to 1955 causing an alternate 1985. This would mean that 2007 events could lead something to happen (eg someone goes back in time to sink the island in the 80s or 90s) – and thus what we see in alt-2004.
The unwieldiness of this (and that Darlton have said no more time travel) among other things is what make me think this is unlikely.
What Jack was trying to accomplish with detonating the bomb was to reset time, where 815 doesn’t crash because the swan is not built. Let’s assume it would have worked, and the the episodes would show us the save flight vom Sydney to LA. would that be a flash forward? i think yes… in that sense, that you take the characters own timeline…
The people who think, that the Alt. Timeline which is shown now, is a flash forward, do that under the assumption that the detonation of jughead was only one step torwards resetting time, and we will see the reset at the end of 2007 timeline…
does that make any sense??

Do the people who say “Flash Forward” think that what we’re seeing in the “Alt Timeline” will happen AFTER the events on the island?
In the “Alt Timeline” it is October 2004 (as shown in Claire’s baby photo), so how can that be a “Flash Forward”?
I guess if you’re looking at it from what happened in 1977 then it would be a “Flash Forward”. BUT the island is now in 2007/08 and the “Alt Timeline” is in October 2004.
I guess I’m just going to have to leave this one. Too confusing 🙂
