All the other Numbers
This is basically just a conversation starter for the new episode. I have a couple questions to start; 1. What happened to all the numbers? It seems like there are six survivors with numbers attached to their name. Are these the Oceanic Six (I didn’t see Aaron listed)? And what happened to all the numbers in between? If the other numbers were also canidates, then why didn’t their numbers appear on the lottery ticket, plane, and computer system, et cetera…? 2. Everything in 2004 after the plane did not crash seems to revolve around Locke…? And how did Hugo go from being extremely unlucky with the numbers to the owner of a company?
The only thing I’ve gotten from the numbers so far is that they’re all male. Because Jacob did touch Kate, but Austen was not listed with a number.

Also, one name i saw crossed off was Troup, for Gary Troup fake writer of the Valenzetti Equation (and Bad Twin), which is made up of the numbers and is supposed to “predict the exact number of years and months until humanity extinguishes itself.”
If people are assigned numbers for the equation Jacob could be figuring out how to save humanity, by using people, because like Faraday said there are constants and variables, people are the variables because they have free will.
If everyone is given a number I wonder who is 108, all the numbers added up, maybe Aaron? that would blow my mind…again…i need a helmet to watch this show.
Also to answer some of your questions, maybe people like Ilana doesn’t know there are numbers assigned to candidates, but just that there are candidates.
This episode was Locke’s flash sideways, that is why it centered around him.
Hugo is lucky now from the episode “LA X” (side note Spanish for the Variable). In one of his flashbacks we are told he owned a box making factory, which we know are certain it is the same one Locke worked for.

And I know we don’t know which Kwon, but I can only assume it’s Jin because the rest are males and because he did touch Kate and her name isn’t one of the numbers.
MIB says that he doesn’t know which Kwon it is, Kate could have a number, but not just one of “the numbers” so there is still hope for Sun. Also I think I saw Rousseau’s name too.
Oh, yeah I’m sure Kate and Sun have a number. There has to be a boatload of numbers, Frank might be a candidate and might have a number, etc.

I think the Kwon in question has to be Jin. Sun would have flashed to 1977 with the other Ajira peeps if it was her.
And like ive said before, if it wasnt for the numbers how would Hurley have won the lottery? He is my fave character and it sucks the episode centered on him is episode #10.
I’m thinking that the equation numbers get repeated each time Jacob brings a new group to the island, there is always a candidate for each, Jacob hoping one will survive to take over, but they keep dying. When you die your name gets crossed off, when all the candidates are dead, Jacob begins working on bringing another group to the island. How or why the numbers are what they are I haven’t got a clue.
On another post I had the thought that Kate isn’t on the list (Mikhail also said that she wasn’t) because she didn’t follow Jacob’s path and stop stealing – she was a very naughty girl 😉 so maybe she ‘excused’ herself from becoming a candidate by not being the person Jacob wanted.
Oh just another thought, what if the numbers relate to a certain stereotype – doctor, conman, mobster, mercenary… Someone fitting those stereotypes are assigned the same number each group brought to the island.
Chief’s gotta be happy with that one.

i also think there might be something with people filling certain ‘roles’, like Claire is the new Danielle, i think Dogen was a doctor, and was the original Jack, he was sort of appointed as a leader, much like the losties did with Jack. Lockes dead body was the new Christians dead body.
It might be like the Ajira flight and how the Oceanic 6 had to replicate 815 as much as possible, replicating what has happened before. Maybe its been going on for ages, potential candidates being ‘recruited’, coming to the island and filling these ‘roles’.
I don’t think Kate has a number. She’s the variable. I think KWON is going to be Sun and Jin together since Jacob touched them at the same time.
