Hurley talks to Jacob for direction. Hurley talks to Isabella and changes Ricardo’s mind. MIB seemed none to happy to see this transpire under that tree. Ergo – Hurley’s a gonner.
BTW: Was the tree under which Ricardo dug up the necklace one of those trees w/Smokey repellant?
I think Hurley is going to be the key to the resolution of the ultimate conflicts brewing on the island. He is the most honest and sincere of the bunch, which is why I think Jacob communicates through him (and why MIB probably fears him). He will be the one who provides clarity to the rest, and may end up being the most pwerful because of his lack of desire for power. We’ll see!
I think MIB fears all of the substitutes, no because they are just special (fruit of Jacob’s own manipulations) but because he knows they are part of plan from Jacob that he doesn’t truly understands.
