What About Those Whispers?
Hope you all haven’t forgotten about the whispers! What are they, who are they?
Just a guess, but could it be the people who have died on the island and either have chosen to stay, have access to come and go or are trapped on the island until either Jacob or MIB proves his point.
I definitely think these are dead people, some of them are even identified, Christian Shepherd, Shannon just before she dies, Yemi talking to the girl who supposedly drowned and then came back to life, said she saw Yemi in the inbetween place.
One of the things the whisperers said on two different occassions is “it’s the brothers that help us.” I believe this is referring to Jacob and MIB. I believe they are brothers and the whisperers look to Jacob or MIB or both to help them make the transition from this life to the next or some how they are able to communicate from beyond the grave or they are trapped there (on the Island) until Jacob or MIB win their argument.

Thoughts?
I always thought that somehow there is some kind of connected consciousness on the Island. We have been told before that the Whispers relate to the Others in some way. I suspect that the Others have found a way to access this connected consciousness – it is one of the ways that the Others know so much about the Losties. I also think MIB/Jacob are also connected to this in some way. It is also true that when the Losties hear the whispers it is usually when they are stressed. Maybe in a heightened state of alertness, they can also access this consciousness to some degree?
I kind of thought it was the people who Jacob had previously brought to the island (on many occasions) who have died and now whisper to the others/losties to help/warn them…
The whispers have always been one of the strangest elements of LOST. I definitely agree that they must be the voices of people who died, but that doesn’t mean MIB and Jacob can’t communicate with their “disciples” this way. I remember ben hearing whispers as a young boy and they have been revealed to be his mother’s voice, an evil man’s voice and ben’s own thoughts. I believe that only the candidates, or past candidates in ben’s case, have the ability to hear these voices. Perhaps it is part of their “connection” with the island and the semi-divinity that comes with being a candidate. Similarly, I think we can now conclude that the evil man’s voice is MIB.
