Jack and 108
This is a very quick theory from me. This has probably been mentioned before but just in case it has been overlooked i thought i’d put it out there. I was messing around with letters of the alphabet and assigning numbers to them. A=1, B=2, C=3 and so on. If you “add up” the letters in Jack Shepherd they add up to 108. Now what this means i’m not sure. Nothing it seems in Lost is mere coincidence so i wager that Jack will be candidate number 1. After watching this weeks episode i have to say i’m glad to see Daniel is back. Did anyone else notice the continuity error thou? When Des is talking to Eloise at the charity do he has stubble. When he’s talking to Daniel moments later he is clean shaven. An error or ANOTHER Des – surely not!
Wow nice catch on Jack’s name adding up to 108. It could possibly tie him to candidate 108, who is named Wallace according to the Lighthouse.
I wrote a recent post (I think it ended up in fun or general) called Wallace/Wall-less where I suggest Desmond is 108, and Wallace is a play on words for Wall-less (i.e. Desmond’s abilities).
It seems that Jack is tied to Desmond somehow based on them meeting up across the series – so perhaps this is another clue linking them somehow?
Regarding the stubble – there have been other continuity questions, such as Desmond having a wedding ring and then not, and his suit changing ever so slightly – so either there were some production errors or there is something strange going on….
Had to find this from another comment I had written before.
If the discrepencies (like the stubble) are not producion errors, I can think of four possible reasons they exist (but I am sure there are more):
1 – the alternate reality is based on the perception of the viewer, and what that viewer knows from the true reality. So if we are seeing the ALT from Jack’s POV, the other characters are affected by his perception of them…
2 – there is a ‘real’ Desmond that flashes into the ALT from the ‘true’ reality, even if just temporarily – but he’d have to do it pretty often…
3 – there are numerous alternate realities, and we are seeing all of them?
4 – events in the true reality continue to effect the status of the alternate reality. In other words, every discrepency in the alternate reality is based on something that occured in the true reality that changed the course of the alternate reality.
Don’t konw if any of these are feasible at all….
apparently dessy was wearing a ring on the plane when talking to jack in the first episode this season, yet he’s not married in the ALT. Could also be another continuity issue, but maybe not.
I have noticed continuity errors before such as Sawyer’s stubble changing lengths when they were flashing thru time. In one clip it almost looked like a clip on beard! Think that can be excused but when you look at all the errors from last nights episode there are just far too many to be coincidence. As someone else said, the world is watching now and the makers of the show know they are being scrutinised on an almost atomic level so even tiny inconsistencies will be picked up by the viewers. Claire, if this is a type of multi-verse (ask Samantha Carter from Stargate SG1 to explain this!) then there could be more than 1 Desmond skipping between realities. I don’t think this is the case however as i would imagine with so little time left this will be too hard for the general public to grasp on top of everything else and too hard for the writers to put across. The timelines will merge over the next few weeks thou what Des’s sacrifice actually is will be debated until it happens. I cant see him dying as they’ve proved he can survive the energy blast. I think it may mean the Des we know will have to remain in the alt reality for time to be reset to what we know but thats just a guess.
