If You Can’t Kill The Chicken….Your Brother Will Do It For You!
Ben has to kill Roger in order to become a leader.
John has to kill Cooper in order to become a leader.
Sayid’s brother can’t kill the chicken, so he does it for him.
Eko’s brother can’t shoot the unarmed man, so Eko does it for him.
If MIB and Jacob are brothers maybe Jacob (the younger brother) is put in the position to kill Dad and MIB (the older brother) spares him the moral consequence of doing so by doing it for him. This act gives Jacob a leadership role that is not rightfully his.
Jacob holds this murder against his brother, believing that both of them had a choice to not commit it. In his eyes his brother has become a monster – and using his newly gained powers – literally turns MIB into the smoke monster (“Jacob took my body.”)
The murder also creates animosity between MIB and mother, who has just lost a loved one. It drives her crazy. She hates her own son. MIB is alienated, frustrated. Mom still loves Jacob. MIB kills her out of jealousy.
Mommy is dead, Daddy is dead – and now all MIB wants is for Jacob, the ungrateful little punk, to die, so he can go home and forget all about his horrible, misunderstood, circumstance.

I have to think it will be something along these lines and great examples from the show. Hopefully the writers have been setting this up the whole time. I think they have.
“Mommy is dead, Daddy is dead – and now all MIB wants is for Jacob, the ungrateful little punk, to die, so he can go home and forget all about his horrible, misunderstood, circumstance.”
Haha! But why did the little blond boy in the jungle have bloody hands? Was it little Jacob trying to torment MIB?
I’m fairly convinced the little boy is Jacob but I don’t think he’s an actual ghost since others can see him and, as far as we know, ghosts only appear at the age they were when they died.
If he’s not a ghost and he bothers MIB so much – then I’m still going with the idea that there is a “ruler maker” to this “game” MIB and Jacob are playing – and he/she is using the image of young Jacob to torment him.
What I don’t get – is why are Jacob and MIB the ages they appear to be (maybe 35-50) – if whatever happened that made them they way they are happened when they were kids…..?
Why did they stop aging when they appear to have stopped aging?
“Why did they stop aging when they appear to have stopped aging?”
Smokey could look any way he wanted until recently. Perhaps the same is true for Jacob. I don’t know how this swings with your theory, though.
Maybe when Jacob gives a “gift” to someone, he receives the same “gift”. I’m really only going off of Richard.
And Mommy and Daddy are Adam and Eve in the caves.
Jacob took MIB’s body. What did he do with it? Did he bury it? Did he burn it? Did he float it out to sea? Did he put it in a cave?
ScrollLocke – My guess is he is the male skeleton in the cave… Even though it makes sense, it’s not going to be surprising if that happens. It’s going to be like “oh, ok then.” Kind of like when they “explained” the whispers.
And – they appear to be 35ish (maybe younger, maybe older) because whatever happened to stop them from aging happened at that time, not when they were kids.
Jack said the clothes had been deteriorating for about 40-50 years. If Jacob killed MIB and threw his body in the cave, it would have been 100 years after he met Ricardo. This cannot be possible because the smoke monster was also there at that time, meaning that Jacob had already taken MIB’s body. They’d better not try to pass that little tidbit up when they explain Adam and Eve.
I suppose time travel can still come into play concerning the Adam and Eve corpses. I’m also inclined to believe that Adam is MIB considering the “Jacob took my body” comment. Even if MIB and Jacob arrived on the island thousands of years ago and MIB “lost his body” post a major time flash to 1954-1964 – then Jack’s statement could still be accurate … but that can’t work, can it? Maybe not. Maybe Jack’s assessment was just to throw us off – such as John calling the skeletons “Adam and Eve” to suggest that they are a couple.
Is there any possibility that, if they (Jacob and MIB) are ageless, if MIB had died and used a different body, then is it possible that an ageless corpse would decompose alot slower?? Plus, are we entirely sure that they are ageless, or has time just really going slow for them?
The body could be ageless but the clothing wouldn’t be.
