Favorite Lost Episode?

I’ve been watching Lost since I was 11. I’m now 17. So, Lost seriously influenced my adolescence and I’m really sad to see it go. No more annoying my friends with my theories, no more being asked questions everytime I wear a shirt with a Lost reference.
So, in honor of the greatest show to ever hit television, in my opinion, I ask you, Losties, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE EPISODES? Of all time, not just Season 6. You don’t have to say why but you can if you want. I think it’ll be nice to see what everybody says. My personal top 3 are:

1) The Constant – I don’t cry very often, but Des and Penny very nearly made me. The best episode of Lost (so far) in my opinion. I love Des.

2) Greatest Hits – Charlie was my favorite character and this episode was the best-Charlie centric episode. I think a lot of people forget about this episode because it happened just before Through the Looking Glass but this is still a really sweet episode.

3) Through the Looking Glass (Part 1 & 2) – This episode really brings Charlie’s redemption full circle. He’s not the guy who crashed on the island anymore. He’s truly a changed man and by sacrificing himself for everyone else and Desmond he shows all those non-believers out there. Still, I don’t know why he didn’t run out and then close the door… 🙂 But maybe the door can only be closed from the inside or something. Haha.

So, come on everybody, share yours!

17 and I've been watching Lost since I was in 6th grade. Even back then I was always trying to figure it out. Oh, and Charlie was my favorite character ever, but now Desmond takes the top spot.

  1. When I watch them all over again, which I’m sure I will do when I get the entire show on Blue Ray this August, I might change my mind.. But as of now, the one that really stands out for me was Season 2 “Man of Science, Man of Faith”.. I can remember those Jack-centric scenes so clearly; his Father telling him to always give a patient hope, Des asking him if he believes in miracles at the stadium, and then the very end when he’s going to tell his patient/future wife the bad news that he didn’t “fix her” and she says “you’re pulling my chain, right?” And then she’s able to move her toes.. man seriously, I get chills thinking about the scenes in that episode..

  2. Ok – I’m throwing it out there … LEFT BEHIND. It’s not just because of the sexual innuendos of Kate and Juliet being handcuffed together – it was for the amazing uncertainly of Juliet’s character

Also – the heartbreak of the shattered relationship between Kate and her mom – and the con Hurley plays on Sawyer. Awesome character development overall. Loved it.

  3. I’m not sure of the name, but the 1st episode of Season 2 where you realize the guy on the exercise bike listening to that weird song is actually down in the Hatch. This is where I thought – this show is about to get CRAZY!

  4. @JacobsDoubleWide
Yep, that was “Man of Science, Man of Faith”! My favorite! I had to look it up.. there was so much that happened that episode, on and off the island.. I was remembering the scenes off the island

  5. Nice intro, Hayley

I agree about The Constant, with Flashes Before Your Eyes and Happily Ever After as book ends, it is easily my favorite episode though it owes its depth to Live Together, Die Alone pt 2 with Desmond turning the key.

    also:

Numbers; probably one of the most clever ideas that the writers set up in season 1 was 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42…

Walkabout; the first John Locke episode, the island as miraculous…

The Man Behind The Curtain; a glimpse into the life of Dharma and first taste of Jacob…

Greatest hits and Through the Looking Glass; for the death of a beloved character and the introduction of the flash foreward…

  6. My 3 favorites (right now) would probably be…..

    (1) “Exodus” (both parts, if that’s allowed) – We got to see the mysterious travelling black smoke for the first time. We learned what the Black Rock was. We got to see a human explode in a fashion that made us all jump in our seat. The hatch door came off to end the season, which instilled more suspense in the world than I remember seeing for any presidential election.

    (2) “The Man Behind the Curtain” – When the mysterious man in the chair appeared for a split second and started throwing things, I knew this show was going to continuously get more interesting the longer it was on. The second half of the 3rd season was very slow, and I started worrying a bit. Then we learn about Jacob and the cabin, and everything got better. It was one of the creepiest and most surprising moments I can remember. It also stirred a lot of theories for the theorists, and that’s never a bad thing.

    (3) “Numbers” – This remains a favorite of mine solely because the chills I remember getting when the camera zoomed in on the hatch door showing us the numbers at the end. How the hell could a series of numbers have such power? What’s funny is that we’re still asking that same question four hours from the very end. Anyway, I also usually enjoy the Hurley episodes, so naturally this remains a favorite of mine.

  7. Wow, what a great question. I’d probly be able to write fuller explanations of why if i hadn’t sliced my hand open with a hunting knife this afternoon; typing just this much has taken over a minute so far.

    1) “Deus Ex Machina” [S2] (Locke’s struggle against his father and the hatch lighting up at the end).

    2) “One of Them” [S2] (Introduction to “Ben” and the most exciting moment on Lost for me, when the Swan timer hits zero and Locke watches with suspense).

    3) “The Brig” [S3] (Locke going off with the Others but mostly because of Sawyer finally killing Cooper/Sawyer. Josh Holloway’s acting at his best in that scene).

Favorite seasons in order (2-1-5-3-4), not sure where 6 lands yet. Fav S6 episode so far is “The Last Recruit”.

  8. I agree with your three choices – The Constant, Greatest Hits and Through The Looking Glass were very good. I also loved Live Together, Die Alone, best finale in my opinion. I was surprised at how I’d gone from initially wanting Juliet dead when she was first introduced, to being quite sad when she was dropped down the shaft in The Incident.

  9. Raised By Another anyone..although I’m not much of a Claire fan, I liked the whole psychic theme. And Hurley discovering Ethan wasn’t on the list, and then Sayid telling Jack that `we’re not alone’ was great.
