MiB and Jacob’s brother
So after watching the most recent episode I kind of wanted to clarify something.
Are Jacob’s brother and MiB two different people? Because that’s how I took it but I can kind of see how they could be the same person. So if anyone can clarify the ending of that episode for me it’d be much appreciated.
No, they are not. At least not at the time being. From birth (of MiB and Jacob), they were brothers. Utterly different, but still brothers.
As certain events in that episode isn’t explained (killing of camp etc.), it’s fair to assume that “Mother” is in fact a smokemonster. What the monster shooting out of the cave is, however, isn’t all that clear.
All we know, is that the smokie we have seen earlier has inhabited MiBs dead body. As he later on did with Locke.
I believe the smoke monster at the end is still Jacob’s brother.
He told Jacob in an earlier episode that Jacob “took” his body (ie took his body and lay it to rest in the caves).
Also, all MIB wants to do is go home. Which is what Jacobs brother wanted to do.
Another thing is, his mother made it so Jacob and his brother couldn’t kill each other, which is why MIB couldn’t kill Jacob.
The smoke monster is still Jacobs brother but is capable of manifesting himself as dead people.

From what I gathered, entering the light turned Jacobs brother into the smoke monster.
She was more like Jacob, able to give “gifts” by the simplest touch, and when Jacob drank the wine her gift went to him.
I think it is safe to assume that the mother is a smoke monster because how else did that village of people die? She wouldn’t be able to do it on her own unless she had jungle friends or was the smoke monster.
Yes, we don’t know exactly what/who the smoke monster was that came out of the cave but I think Trinity makes a lot of sense comparing MiB and Jacob’s brother. They do seem like they’d be the same person.

the way i see things, it seems that MIB’s thoughts, memories and mind were taken by the Smoke Monster or the Smoke Monster is the physical manifestation of MIB’s thoughts etc.
i just reckon that in the cave of light, there was a balancing force of darkness. When MIB’s body when into the cave, the darkness took on MIB’s thoughts at the time (wanting to go home, killing his mother etc).
I don’t think that the Monster IS directly MIB, it is just his thoughts and motives taken a physical form.
This is the way I see it:
MiB is the smoke monster because Jacob pushed him into the light. There was no smoke monster before than. I don’t think Jacob’s mother was a smoke monster. She may have been, I just don’t think that’s the case.
Also, Jacob’s Mother could have easily of killed the village of people. The people were burned. It doesn’t take much to start a fire. It’s like she killed them with brute strengh.
