Jacob, Esau & Rebecca

I am not sure if this has been posted before, and all of this information came from wikipedia, but I just find it very interesting.

First of all I do not think that LOST will end up being about one particular religion. I looked this up after being convinced in last night’s epidode, Recon, that Jacob & MIB are brothers. If this is true MIB’s name is likely Esau. I am sure this is not news to any of you. I did find some parts of their story to very similar to LOST. First, the brothers (Jacob & Esau) were always fighting. It says that when Rebecca (their mother) passed a house of Torah study that Jacob would become active. In contrast when she passed a house of idolatry (worshiping of a cult, image or object) Esau would become active. This seems to parallel the theme of faith vs. science we have seen throughout the show. Second, their father (Isaac) who was blind said that when Jacob entered the room he would smell Gan Eden. This place is described as a positive place that was harmonious and timeless, but not heaven. In contrast when Esau entered the room he would smell Gehenna. This is described as a place of everlasting destruction. Third, the story says that Isaac and Rebecca were buried in the Cave of the Patriarchs. This could explain the two skeletons that we have seen in the cave with Christian’s coffin. This cave is said to also house the head of Esau. We have not seen this yet, but maybe something to look out for. Lastly, it says that Isaac favored Esau while Rebecca favored Jacob. This would make sense given MIB’s comment about his mother last night. Rebecca also helped Jacob decieve Issac. She dressed Jacob in goatskins to make him hairy like Esau. Isaac feel for the trick and blessed Jacob with the dew of the heavens instead of Esau (the first born).

Once again, I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but I found it relevant given last night’s episode.
