Desmond and the oceanic 6
So the “Rules” don’t apply to Desmond. He is special.
By sideways consciousness traveling he may be bending certain rules. Eloise hints that he may also be doing it prematurely. Widmore and Zoe keep talking about how they are ahead of the timetable they have set for themselves, possibly ruining the outcome of their experiment.
In the alternate 2004 Desmond seems to have a very clear idea of what he wants to achieve by tracking down the flight 815 people and showing them – what? and How? by shaking their hand?

clap clap clap…I like it… good idea…
Did he touch Jack?
Nice idea, and good reminder about these ‘tards doing extremely important things ahead of schedule, which you think could be detrimental to the survival of humanity.
I’m wondering if we can relate Jacob’s touching with what we saw tonight with Des and Penny. I don’t see why not. There seems to be a crossover type of connection going on with physical contact.
This was a very deep episode, meaning there was a lot to it, and a lot to think about afterwards. The way that the writing doesn’t spoon feed the audience all the answers is what has made this show so great in the first place. I’m glad it’s still that way. There are hopefully going to be some good theories coming after this one.
Chief is beginning to believe. 😉
After setting up a lot of material in the first half of this season, we are getting the payoff, I think.
I loved Desmond’s certainty and calm in the last few scenes. The way he reassures Widmore and just blandly accepts to follow Sayid. I think he knows that things will actually be played out in the alternate reality, not in the 2007 island reality.
What do you guys think?
This episode gives us stuff to work with. It’s pretty much the first one this season that’s done that for us. So, yes, refreshing.
Andre7 – hmmm….If this show ends with the alt. reality taking over, I’d be surprised considering we’ve known these losties’ original lives for 5 years. It sure did seem bizarre that Des was all “Oh, right on Sayid. Man! you really kicked those guys’ balls in didn’t ya!? Sure I’ll follow!”
I think Des knows, or has faith that whatever he’s planning on doing with the people on the manifest, will have positive results on the island no matter who he follows.
Its not going to end with the alt…the alt is the past…that, as Faraday put it, shouldnt have happened. They changed things, and he knows it.
The “alt” is now the past…so they arent flashing back…or even sideways…its sideways from the flashback…making them flashing diagonally.
Charlie saw Claire…it had to be Claire in 2004 on the island, leading me again to point out the old 2004 on island meshing with the new 2004 off island…
If you go back to my “AN Occurrence…” post
http://www.theoriesonlost.com/2010/02/an-occurence-at-our-parallel-bridge/
You can see some of the other times when I and in the comments others, noticed where parallels possibly exist between the two 2004 timelines…
Now we need to figure out where this particular image would fit into Charlies “death dream” from the 2004 on island time line…
What I don’t understand is what does the stuff from the Constant have to do with all this and especially with Happily Ever After?
stone – that’s a good question.
I guess when you have an unwanted problem involving your conscience travelling through time, constants can stop nose-bleeds and prevent further confusion.
When you’re conscience is visiting an alternate reality, contacts with the constants will bring you back.
It’s interesting that he was only “gone” for a few seconds for what seemed like hours. I’m wondering if this is how Jacob appears to live forever. Maybe he jumps timelines or something…..
Chief you just blew my mind with jacob being “immortal” because of time travel, great call
