That 70’s show.
Since last night’s episode and even before then, there has been alot of people speculating how to get the Losters back to their “correct” time. I hate to burst people’s bubbles… but what makes you think that is going to happen? I think the show is going to be firmly set in the 1970’s for the rest of Season 5 and probably a good part of Season 6. What makes me think that?
-Investment. The writers spent most of Seasons 3 and 4 and so far the first 8 episodes of Season 5 making a case for the plauseability of time travel, and its importance in the fate of the islanders, and setting everything up for the characters to be exactly where they are. That’s a TON of build up to just say, meh, never mind, lets bring them home and have a boar-roast like old times.
-Opportunity. The Dharma Initiative is one of the biggest mysteries of the entire show. Everyone has a theory about what they are doing and why they are there, but nobody really knows, including the 815 people and probably most of the Others and probably Widmore and his pals. I doubt they are going to unwrap such a carefully packaged present in only a few episodes. And not just what Dharma is doing… but what Dharma knows about the island… because of anyone in the show, Dharma seems to know more about the history of the island than anyone else. I can’t see how the writers would pass up the oppurtunity to do some ‘splain’n.
-Lost Years. The islanders were with Dharma for 3 years before the Oceanic 6 returned and the Oceanic 6 were gone for 3 years as well… that means that even with all of this crazy time travel, the group is still mostly in sync with each other in terms of experienced time. Lost spent 4 seasons exploring the adventures of 90 days on the island. How could they pass up exploiting the 3 years we know about through flash backs?

i believe they will spend more than a few episodes, but not as many as you say… perhaps most of the rest of the season will be in dharma. dharma is big but what about desmond, walt, etc. are they going to be left out in favor of dharma? i dont believe so.
I agree with you PJ.
The key word you used was investment.
Building new sets, props and establishing characters is always an expensive proposition. We are already half-way through the season (yes it rolls by that fast!).
Of 16 episodes nearly half are gone.
By my math they still have to do three or four flashback episodes about how the other Oceanic six end up on flight 316. They will likely do two episodes to establish Ceasar and Ilana. One for Desmond’s return to the island. It looks to me like the bulk of the rest of this season will deal with two time frames. Locke and Ben dueling in 2007. Perhaps both of them trying to get to Richard at the temple. And the Oceanic six in Dharma-land, trying to figure out how to get back.
most expensive pilot in tv history. apparently they have money to spend.
Yeah, one of the most popular shows on television… ABC hasn’t had many of those… I’m sure they’re willing to throw some money at it…
