Smokey and the pilots…

Hello all,

this is my first theory here, but I used to post on lost-theories every now and then.
My contribution is very short and is actually more of a specific thought than a grand theory.

So, I was thinking about why both pilots of 815 ended up dead (with the second murdered by Smokey), and comparing that to the new situation with Ajira 316 where the co-pilot died on landing but Lapidus survived and was actually even spared by Smokey himself.

My theory is that Frank Lapidus is one of the “big players” that the island claims to itself (in a similar way as the losties). On top of that, you will also remember that he was the one who was originally supposed to fly 815.
Seth Norris replaced him, but eventually fate course-corrected and Frank ended up back on the island as pilot of 316, just like he was supposed to be the first time around with 815!

Why it was decided that he’d stay in 2007 is of course something I look forward to find out as soon as the powers that be will shed enough light for us to figure out 😉

  1. I like this a lot, not the least of which is because I have been a huge fan of Jeff Fahey since Psycho 3. (‘Watch the guitar, it’s my bread and butter’).

True that Lapidus escaped the flight of 815 in the same way some others fell into the flight, l ike Sayid missed the previous day’s flight to see to arrangements for his friend’s body. It seems to be the nature of fate. Like the Final Destination movies. You cannot outrun the island.

  2. i like it. smokey may ave killed the pilot of 815 because e wasn’t supposed to be there….lapidus was. i like ur view on the course correcting and getting him to come back but he alredy came back before 316…..why didn’t smokey just blow up his heli or sumat? bt then if u think like tat then u’ve also gotta think if he was there originally then the losties wouldn’t have been on that helicopter and been saved and they wouldn’t have ended up in 1977…..so was lapidus really supposed to be on the 1st plane? my view is yes….i think that jack sawyer and every1 arnt where they’re supposed to be. sawyer and co are there because of ben and locke turnin wheels…..i think jack and co have been sent back by the island to bring the rest of the gang bak to real time. te island knows sending certain people back will jeopardise this. ie ben would mor then likely ave an evil plan up his sleeve. sun wud put people at risk when se see’s jin, lapidus im not so sure about but maybe the island just wants to keep him where it needs him now its finally got him. and finally locke because he would just try and seek out the others of 77 and try 2 lead them. not the way things should go….i believe that there are onli certain people that can travel and the reason being that they have been red by smokey and he knows they wouldn’t affect the timeline unles it was supposed to happen….sorry for rambling on……went completely off subject……hope u undastood that lol.

  3. well for one I wasn’t saying ‘understand’ I was in fact saying ‘understood’ which is exactly what I wrote, but thanks for the feedback.

  4. Hi rasty, I think there is another angle with Frank Lapidus not being aboard flight #815.

Apparently, he was hungover from a night of drinking and that’s why he never made the flight. I believe that circumstances from beyond were controlling the situation.

In other words, Frank was NOT meant to fly #815, because he was going to be required to play a larger role in later circumstances. One of those things, was to fly #316, and also to take the ’06’ off of ‘the island’.

The pilot who did fly #815, was eliminated by the ‘smoke monster’, as he was not needed. He fulfilled his destiny. Just my opinion.

  5. if frank was meant to be on the island so much, how come he was able to fly off so easily last time he was on it?

think the piolots died in the first season just because the writers hadn’t wrote them into the story so therefore they needed to be written out as quickly as possibe so that the main story could have been continued.

the story as it is now did not exist at that point.
