The lampost and symbolism, just for fun!!
I believe the lamposts’ whereabouts is of great symbolism and meaning, such as the science(being the lampost) is located in the heart of faith (church), and also vice versa, in that you need to enter the church(faith) to get to the lampost(science). I believe this is another example of the whole black/white issue that I believe symbolises contratiction on the island. And opposites, and how you need one to have the other.
This also gave way for my thought on how positive and negative charges (magnetism) are BOTH needed to cause a reaction. Alot of our characters are polar opposites. I believe the Island needs both these positive and negative ‘charges’ to survive.
Can I also add that they are lots of small instances where this is shown, for example when two opposing characters are together they show them with black and white t-shirts. the tennis shoes white, Lockes burial shoes black. A long list of these can be found on Lostpedia as they are too many to put down here.

Hello Stephanie. I must say, it took me a few minutes to understand the lampost analogy…I knew you meant the station, but I was thinking too literal.
I very much agree with the idea that science and faith correlate on Lost. Everyday, someone tries a little harder to prove that science is stronger than religion or faith, and everyday, some kind of miracle will occur to someone, be it monetary, health related, or of the spiratual sense. One says the other is irrelavent.
The whole thing in my mind, is that the relationship between them is the key, not the seperation.
Whether timetravel explains god, or it is a religious coverup, I think the dual existance is necessary in all cultures. At least until corruption destroys the bond. I think that may be the case in Lost.
Not sure how much or how long you’ve been following, but many of my theories revolve around this relationship. Check them out, hit me with some feedback.
Glad to see new faces here. Nice “post”…sorry, I make dumb puns way too much here
Stephanie, I really like this post!
Very interesting analogies between Science and Faith. It explains ‘the setting’, perfectly!
most theoretical physicists and physicists in general have found that theories on the universe and its creation all point to an intelligent creator who created the universe and set all laws in motion because many universal constants are too perfect to have been created by chance (unless there are infinite universes and ours are one of the ones that panned out). a lot of the words i inadvertently used like constant are connected to lost.
so in fact science may in fact prove gods existence. funny interesting and one of the reasons i like lost- the science/faith duality. when in fact they may not be opposites at all, but in fact working in tandem.
