Fusions — Biggest clue ever?
When Ben was walking with Locke and Sun, as they appraoched the wall around the temple.
Ben says “We built this wall, so people like you can’t see the temple”
Roughly. He most definately says “WE”.
That would imply Ben built the wall right? It looked like a pretty old wall to me. So I see two possiblities here…
-Ben upon being “saved” by the island and loosing his innocence meant he was actually changed into another person. Let’s call it a fusion. Ben’s mind was fused with something that saved him but also gave him knowledge. Ben is now partially something else. He retains Ben in most ways, yet has knowledge of another life or even lives. So the “we” is him actually refering to him building it as someone ancient long ago. As they are a part of him now.
-Or they built that thing recently and its all fake. For some devious sort of purpose. I don’t know how likely this is.
Ideas anyone? Why would Ben say “We built this city on Rock and Roll”?

Interesting theory. Could the fusion be something like having a collective knowledge of all the essential things that the others know?
I am having trouble with this…I thought he meant ‘we’, as in the others?

maybe he was givven part of the collective concious of the black smoke because he seems to know everything.

He’s part of the group, they are is people, you would naturally say WE instead of THEY.

I think the Borg reference is right on. He’s one of them and they built it. Once someone is one of the others he’s accepted competely by them and nobody ever says “Hey man, you’re new. What do you know?”…

I initially thought he was referring to ‘the others’, but I’m not so sure. The wall may have been repaired by them, though.
BigDaveg I totally see what your saying. It could just be that he is refering to him as part of the others and the others from thousands of years ago built the wall.
I dont think you would say “WE” if you were referinng to a 3000 year old soccer game though would you?

This is a really good idea, the collective conciousness or a fusing of a new mind to an older one would explain so much with Ben, the others and maybe the whispers.
It could explain why ben, richard, christian and locke seem to have forbidden/special knowledge of the island and events.
It would be interesting to find out how you gain entrance into the island club/collective conciousness and where the temple and black smoke fit in.
i like this idea. The idea of a temple changing someone and giving them ancient rites is not new … this stems from past and present religious temple ceremonies. Everyone that has seen the smoke monster/gone inside the temple has been changed somehow. They must be somehow related. Also, we potentially have Ben, Christian and Locke as resurrected beings.
