Does the Jughead lie in the shadow of the statue?
This comment made by Ilana seemed like so much more then a code.
I feel like she would already know if Lupidas was with them or not, and think about the guy that warned Lupidas when he got back to The Hydra, he said “Ilana and some of the others found guns, they are saying that they are in charge”
Why was he not beaten and tied up, he is warning Lupidas and showing concern that Ilana&crew may be upto something, which they definitely are.
I believe Ilana attacked Lupidas because his strange disappearace with Sun makes him seem like he has something to hide and that he knows more about the island then he is letting them believe, which he does!
Now we know that the statue has already been destroyed by the time Ilana&crew are on the island. (We see only the foot when Sayid, Sun and Jin pass it on the boat)
What I think happened is that, as instructed by Faraday,
Richard, Widmore, Ellie, they buried the Jughead. They had to make sure when they buried it that it is in a very safe place so that no one could ever find it!
Also in a place where they could find it incase they ever needed to use it to their own advantage.
I believe they buried the Jughead in the shadow of the statue, probably right where the shadow peaks, I have seen a lot of people mention the statue working as a sundial.
I agree in a similar way, I think that hiding something in the shadow of a LARGE stationary object is a very smart. The shadow changes its location depending on the time of the day, so you really need to know WHEN to dig, not really where. (this all ties back into the TIME aspect of LOST)
When Widmore was banished from the island, they probably destroyed the statue so that he could never send anyone to find the bomb and use it against them. He may have been 1 of 3 or so to know its location so they had to make sure he kept his mouth shut, or make the bomb unable to be found by destroying the statue!
I think Widmore hired Ilana&crew to grab Sayid because Widmore probably knows that Sayid hates Ben by now. Widmore told her to find the bomb and set it off, somehow this will allow him to return!
Either Ilana needs to find a away to travel back in time to when the statue was in one piece so that she can find the bomb, or Widmore was unaware that they knocked the statue down and has sent her on a wild goose chase.
Seems like a Ben Linus move – to destroy the statue to keep a secret from Widmore.
I just do not see Ilana’s motive in working for Ben, what could he possibly want her doing on the island with guns, he has the others, we know he doesn’t like outsiders on the island, and there are no more mercenaries around for Ilana to fight.
She is there to take out Ben and the DI, help Widmore get back to the island using the Jughead and causing the incident to happen!

Although I do not disagree fully about Juggheads location, I have a couple of questions in regards to the end of your theory…I see where you picture them finding Jugghead…
But is the incident not an occurance in the 70s?
Or are you assuming that it could be something that due to time travel, may have been caused by a future event?
Yea I definitely think “the incident” was caused by a future event.
Idk if this is a spoiler, I am pretty sure it is common knowledge but if not look away

The season finale part 1 & 2 are called
THE INCIDENT!
so I think we are going to see how it all goes down, and I have a very strong feeling that we have not seen the end of ol’ Jughead, and that the hydrogen bomb will inevitably cause the incident to happen.
So…you believe that the incident is caused by Ilana and co. doing something to the bomb, in turn, causing the incident in the 70s…Im not disagreeing, just curious is all.
I have come to the conclusion that the titles arent very good indications to what is going on, but obviously, this one will provide at least a little insight.
Good thought on that…going to be thinking about the idea…
correction, doing something in 2008/09 with the bomb…then everything else…
Yea but I don’t think Ilana can find the bomb without seeing the constructed statue.
This is where Locke and Sun trying to get back to Jin comes into play. They are going to do something, probably with the FDW to get back to ’77 and find Jin, etc…
But what might really happen, and Widmore knows this, is that everyone is going to meetup at some point at the same time.
Hopefully back when the statue was up!
I would love to see that!
haha check this out

I don’t want to go too off track, but I don’t think that Ilana would know who hired her, whoever it is. She was most definitely hired by someone who is hired by a major player.
Also, Widmore tends to be organized with his “spies”. Think to the freighter crew, they all met each other before they got to the island.
Also, I don’t think that Ilana was suspicious of Lapidus in particular; I’m sure she was asking everyone. The person who warned Lapidus was probably just hiding out in the bushes or something. On a show, you can’t think that literally.
Onto the bomb, Faraday said that the only way to stabilize (?) it is to bury it. Who is to say that the destruction of the statue isn’t caused by Jughead somehow being set off?
About “When Widmore was banished, they probably destroyed the statue so Widmore could not send people to the island and blow them up” who is they? The Others know that Widmore had the interests of the island as his priority while he was on the island, so why would they think he would destroy it?
Additionally, why would they still leave the 4 toed foot, and not destroy that too? If I was Widmore telling people I am sending to the island to dig a bomb from beneath a statue, the people would ask, what is the statue of. Widmore would say “it’s of . Note that it is 100 feet tall and has four toes on each foot.
So there is no reason for the Others to destroy the statue and leave a foot.
cappayne
a. Widmore wants revenge on the others for banishing him, it was not just Ben as we witnessed.
b. Why do you need to get rid of the foot, when it is the shadow the statue casts that mattered, once the statue is down, it cant cast a shadow, so who needs to get rid of the foot.
c. You don’t need a hydrogen bomb to blowup a statue, you can just beat it rocks and weapons.
d. You do need a hydrogen bomb to blow up some crazy $hit and start some sort of an incident!
enough said, goodnight!
he doesnt want the bomb to destroy the island, he wants to destroy something that is preventing his return.
maybe the temple, idk
not the temple, that would be cool, but unlikely,,
they said the in swan station an incident occured cause exotic matter to leak or w/e, thats why they had to push the button to reset the charge.
the incident was the jughead going off, think about radzinky and how nuts he is about protecting the swan…
beat that
But Widmore does not want revenge on the island. Why would he use a hydrogen bomb to kill people? He would use people, like he did with Keamy and friends.
Also, just because the whole statue is not there, you could picture where the statue would be. The statue was huge; even at full height, the statue’s shadow would range anywhere from right next to it, to far and wide off. Of course this is dependent on the time. of day, which we don’t know if it matters or not. The statue had 2 legs, so having the bomb buried directly underneath the statue in between the two feet ensures it is in the shadow almost all day.
I didn’t say you need a bomb to blow the statue up, I said it’s possible and plausible. Rocks and weapons? Seems like a long and dangerous task.
And suppose the bomb is retrieved and it is the incident. What and where exactly does it blow up, and why have we not – or have we seen a place where evidence of a hydrogen bomb blast is? So far we have seen on the island DHARMA stations, forest, caves, plains, beach, water, DHARMAville/New Otherton and a broken statue that used to be huge.
I just don’t know what else Jughead could have destroyed.
If the bomb is set off… Nothing would be left…. That couldn’t be the incident
Its not the incident, they explain that or at least cappayne says its caused by a leak maybe seperate incidents but not likely.
How would Ben Know about that bomb? unless the writers just assume we will figure Widmore or Richard said something to him, but as far as I know or remember, but Ben hasnt mentioned that bomb once.
Widmore would know exactly where to look for the bomb, thus sending a team to get it.
********************************************
What if Sun is working with Widmore maybe??? (they have meet & he knows her father who im sure is really Chang or somebody significant later on)
Maybe it will show a backstory on Widmore or Sun when Widmore actually calls her discussing their akward conversation & Sun had a manilla folder with some info not sure what of?? But im sure Widmore gave it to her with info on Sayid, Llana or Jughead one of the three.
Sun also seen the Statues Toe’s when boating with Jin & Sayid maybe thats how Widmore proves to Sun he is for real & knows about the island, cause he knows.
Where is Sun’s baby by the way? Thats got to be 1 big babysitting bill, taking all this time while mommy goes find daddy playin Dharma man in the 70’s.
We really dont know what Time they are in right now, so Llana & them could be just far back enough for the statue to be there so they can destroy it.
I’m just thinking Llana blows it up somehow Metal Crate) cause its there & then its destroyed so it can tye in maybe.
Suns baby was left with her mother if I can remember…. Also mr paik is not chang but I think he knows something and his company has something to do with everyone elses
I think it makes perfect sense that the bomb could have been used to blow up the statue. It doesn’t seem very likely that rocks and smaller weapons were used to destroy it, simply because the thing was so huge and because it was made of stone. They could probably deface it a bit, but knock it down altogether? No… I don’t think so. The bomb would have destroyed the statue and caused some of the other problems on the island too. Remember that women used to be able to have healthy babies on the island, and live through it. Something happened to upset the natural order of things, and a massive hydrogen bomb would be enough to cause generations of women to have difficult pregnancies. The island seems to be a pretty segregated place, so whatever happened on it probably stayed consentrated there.
I think you’re right in saying it happened in the future, because why would they be looking for it then if it had already happened? I don’t know… this is where I start to go crosseyed
Cappayne and BiNG
I love both of your ideas, but I have a comeback!
cappayne – i don’t think Widmore wants to destroy to island, only kill everyone on it or destroy something that may be preventing his return (for all we know there could be another hidden station like the looking glass, that is keeping the island safe)
also he may just want to use the bomb as leverage, if his people have it, they control it, hence everyone must do as he says in fear of total destruction.
The bomb is not under the statue, it would have been obliterated, not knocked down. And of course the others could have taken axe’s and w/e weapons to knock it down, why not?? don’t need a bomb for something like that, its easy, take out one leg, Anubis goes down!!!
I don’t think the hydrogen bomb is going to blowup in the swan, I think the bomb will leak (similar to how Faraday did not want to get near it, because it was LEAKING) in the station causing the incident.
All I know is we have not seen the last of Jughead!
Cappayne
-Widmore DOES NOT have the islands best interest at heart, and the others know that, hence why he was BANISHED!
he could have just been demoted, but BANISHED! that was a unanimous decision, Richard told Ben he did not even have to see Widmore off, all of the others wanted this.
Widmore was selfish, he left all the time, which i guess leaves a trail (so is frowned upon) and he had a child with an outsider,
HE BROKE ALL THE ISLAND RULES FOR HIS OWN SELFISH REASONS. Ben said he would never do that, he cared about the island and would do w/e possible to protect it.
So now he wants to rid the island of all of them, so he can do with the island as he pleases, setup Widmoreville!
BiNG
love the idea of Sun working for Widmore, she hates Ben and has had contact with Widmore off the island.
And you are right, Ben has no idea about the bomb, I doubt anyone would tell him. Widmore on the other hand was around when they buried the bomb
so knocking the down the statue to hide the location of the bomb from Widmore, is extremely plausable!
Joshcgs, What I think is relevant in your theory is, “The When”, as opposed to the where. Although, I still believe the statement acts as a code word, I like this idea, and we may find out that it is relevant to both.
The bomb just might be located at the foot of the statue, so this is also plausible.
As for the entire statue itself, I happen to think that it ‘weathered’ over the course of the last couple of thousand years, much as most of the ancient ruins in Egypt did, and was furthered damaged by the volcanic eruption on ‘the island’, leaving the ‘lone’ foot.
Goodpoint, we did find out in that episode with Ben as a child in school that their is an active volcano on the island.
I think a lot of people, including myself, have forgot all about that, where does the volcano tie in, and do you think we will see an eruption?
Joshcgs, I don’t know if we will actually see it, although I know fans have been asking if we will.
I think if we did, it likely would further along in the series. The writers have said we will eventually get a glimpse of the front of the statue, so it’s possible.
If this is true, I expect my mouth will fall wide open in amazement! lol Especially, if it’s somebodies face we’ve seen on the show! lol
Loved your picture of the statue above!
Ya I want to know everything about that statue it is driving me nuts and i know it is very important. Since we saw the foot i knew it was important.
The picture from the link above, “good luck figuring me out b*itches”, so funny
for anyone who didnt see it
http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2009/03/Lost%20Statue.jpg
It’s definitely very appropriate, considering everybody is trying to figure it out! lol
Priceless! Thanks for posting it!
the moment the flash happened with Locke in the well and Sawyer&crew looks up and see’s the statue standing there was insane.
Especially because they never saw the foot, only Sayid, Jin & Sun did.
So they were probably like wtf is that?
I really can’t wait until we go back further in time, so far back that we see who build the statue, who knocked it down, who shoots flaming arrows at people and who came off the black rock.
I have a theory that the black rock was carrying some magnetic type material or is made out of it.
Remember in the hatch, Jack’s necklace would cling towards the wall like a magnet.
I think the blackrock became close to the island, but a magnetic charge hoisted it out of the water and straight into the middle of the island.
I beleive the DI founder came off that boat.
Hmm I dont think Widmore will use that bomb simply cause it’s too unstable (It’s Leaking) & already caused an “Incident” maybe we will see them cause the “incident”.
That thing could blow up & it wouldnt just be no “firecracker”, thats a HYDRO bomb(my favorite kind of bomb “HYDRO”hahaha)but it would prob desrtoy the entire island.
I dont think thats widmore’s objective, To kill all the peep who “Banished” him in one BIG BOOM.
Ya a bomb is leverage & would scare me also but c’mon if your Llana would you just stupidily dig up an old Hydro Bomb that was leaking?
Doesnt seem like her “Forte” she seems like an A$$ kicker like Ana Lucia or special op’s like Naomi & the mercenaries that came to get Ben.
I know i said it, I know you know it, but Llana is just like either of those females & everybody ties in somehow.
Maybe Ilana’s team is a bomb squad!
They could be experts in the field of retrieving an unstable bomb and using it toward a different purpose.
I am not saying Widmore wants to blowup the island, but he wants to use the Jughead for something.
I have a very strong feeling we have not seen the end of Jughead, and that it will play a significant role somewhere down the road. It must be buried somewhere on the island!
my favorite kind of bomb is the “Irish Car Bomb”
(3/4 glass of Guinness, 1 shot of Jameson, 1 splash of Baileys)
Throw it all together in one glass and pound it! taste like chocolate milk!
