The Well

After “Dead is Dead” I have had LOST on the brain, so naturally I have been reading all the theories, having discussions and writing some theories of my own.

After I sort of tracked the pattern of the outrigger canoes in a different theory with an obvious title, I started to think a lot about the well.

Before Locker/Sawyer&crew reach The Orchid, the flashes are becoming more frequent, Charlotte is in bad shape. When they decide to keep moving and leave Faraday behind with Charlotte, Sawyer turns to Locke and says “Let me ask you something John, if we dont even know when the hell we are, what happens if The Orchid isnt even around anymore?” Charlotte then interupts and says “Look for The Well, you will find it at The Well”

When Locke/Sawyer&crew finally reach The Orchid, and Juliet is like “thankgod, what are the odds that we would end up in the same time as this thing (the orchid station)” and then they flash and its gone, Sawyer goes “you just had to say something”

When The Orchid disappears, Locke finds The Well nearby. Miles says “how the hell did Charlotte know this was here.” We now know that Charlotte grew up in the DI.

When Locke/Sawyer&crew do find The Well, it is open and Locke is able to go down the rope into the FDW cave. But after a few flashes we see The Well location in three different time periods.

1. The Orchid Station – put up by the DI, definitely after ’77, is The Well still nearby when the station is built? we don’t know.

2. After the final flash, when the now Sawyer&crew (Locke is gone) is stuck in ’74, the well is filled up with soil and rocks. Who filled it up? Keep reading!

3. The Well when Locke/Sawyer&crew find it, is open with a rope going down into the cave. We know in 74 that The Well is filled up, this was either done by The Others to prevent the DI from finding the FDW. Or the DI did it to build The Orchid and contain “the energy” or w/e. So the time period of when The Well was opened could be before or after ’74-’77.

4. The flash that causes Locke the fall down the well puts the losties way back in time when the statue was up. Miles even says “We must have gone way back,” when he is questioned for this statement he points Sawyer&crew to look at the statue. Wow that statue is awesome! BUT at this time their is no well, SO WHO BUILT THE WELL IN THE FIRST PLACE????

Now as we know The Well is filled up with soil and rocks in ’74-’77, at some point the DI will find the location and start to build The Orchid. We don’t know who built the well or who filled it with soil and rocks, but we do know that the DI will build The Orchid.

We also know that Faraday will intervene somehow in the creation of The Orchid station, maybe to prevent time travel from ever being possible, or so he can get back to the FDW and do something to fix everything!

But what if another Lostie like Sawyer, who is happy in his current situation, wants to stop Faraday and the DI, and tries to destroy The Orchid so that the wheel can never be found or turned in the first place,

Sawyer does not know about the wheel, but he does know that someone goes into The Orchid, crazy things happen, and he may not be willing to risk that. I see the losties taking different sides in the war!!!!! For who will be on what side, that is another theory I have yet to even consider thinking about because that is a whole mess of things to connect. But I do support the Des & Wid alliance! not that I like Wid, but I think it will happen!

  1. Ya i forgot about Faraday being at the station, what if Daniel causes the leak somehow?

I wondered the same thing about who built the Well also. i dont think the same peep who built the Statue but who put that wheel there??

  2. I like this well idea…or do I like this idea well…no, no, thats not right…
Either way, great thought, my only question is…di they build the Orchid over the well, because if not…then this is a very plausable thought.

I like how you keep the “whatever happened, happened” theme going.

But I am starting to drift away, if everything is going to happen the same way, then we already know what will happen!

The DI will all die, the others will take over and the losties will crash is 2004.

Faraday is going to do something in The Orchid that will change EVERYTHING,

And I think the war that is coming will be to prevent the use of that station.

The Orchid has played a huge role this season, and we already know we will be revisiting the building of The Orchid with a DI disguised Faraday in play!

  4. we dont already know what will happen, we know specific events, but arent we watching to find out what dharma was up to, what the others are up to, and other stuff that happened in the past and their purpose. don’t a lot of our answers exist in the past? thats why i think they wont change much, because then we might not ever have our answers

  5. ekolocation – you make an excellent point

But the losties don’t agree with you, they feel as though they will do whatever they want.

Jack did not know if it was his destiny to save Ben or not, he simply said no of his own free will.

Kate did not know it was her destiny to bring Ben to Richard, she did it on her own free will, and Sawyer helped her because he is in love with her, not Juliet (IMO).

Faraday is going to intervene in the creation of the The Orchid to change something!!!!

  6. Dr. Pierre Change already knew about the The Orchid, its special energy that needed to be harnessed, but he did not know who Daniel Faraday was,

Faraday is going to screw with The Orchid being built somehow.

Either he will sabotage The Orchid station, or work to get behind the wall first so that he can push the wheel.

EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE THE ONE TO PUSH THE WHEEL, hell why not, free trip to Tunisia!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Joshcgs, my take on the well was that it was filled in to hide the FDW.

I think Dharma could have done this, once they found it, and had another entrance created vis The Orchid Station.

Charlotte knew that a well existed, and that it was covered over, so that is what makes sense to me.

  8. Heres a good thing to consider when your trying to work out who built the well; when they flash to way back then and see the statue the rope is in the ground because sawyer was still holding onto it…. when john pulls the donkey wheel they flash to 1977 the rope is not in sawyers hands. which means he left it stuck in the ground way back then. Would it be plausible that someone stumbled upon the rope and started digging thus creating the well. now the messed up part would the well be ever built if the rope was never there???

  9. completely unrelated to your theory (good thoughts by the way)…
I was wondering… when you write a theory and click “submit for review” what happens? does the theory just pop up when it’s deemed acceptable, or what?
