Abbot Enheduanna Schwarzschild
Name meaning:
-Abbot: Father defined by or in religious connotation/definition. From the beginning, Lost was riddled with religious tone and it was obvious it would play some sort of role. Seemed fitting to start here.
-Enheduanna: Mesopotamian High Priestess and the modern civilization’s first recorded poet. I created the name after season 1. John explaining backgammon history to Walt spawned the idea that the island may have a link yo the beginning of civilization and maybe even time itself. It was “poetic” and important to add this to my pseudonym. I needed the mother of poetry in modern civilization to match the religious “Father” in my first name.
-Schwarzschild: Reference to Karl Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild Black Holes. Smoke monsters, hatches, and curing paralysis doesn’t point to black holes…but the sci-fi elements ran deep and obvious. The wheel moving the island and transporting Ben felt like it got plucked from my imagination.

I’m going to ask a question within your question:
When was the purge?
Because we saw last week that Ben was living in ‘New Otherton’ (pushing Alex on the swingset) when Widmore left the island. Richard walked up to him…asked if he was going to say goodbye…
I can’t remember when purge was, so maybe that’s the date reference since there wasn’t a screen with date…???
Well, I decided to answer my question using Lostpedia. So it says 1992 based on Locke’s dream with Horace. So my thinking based on my first comment is what makes me think that’s why it’s 1992…
According to the Lost wiki, this is what it says about Charles Widmore’s reign on ‘the island’.
**Charles Widmore
**Season 5 (1954-Unknown)
It also says that he was likely removed from ‘the island’ prior to ‘the purge’!
It also says it was 1996 when Charles met with Desmond in his office, when he went to see Widmore about marrying Penny.
It appeared that he had been off of ‘the island’ for longer than 4 years, to have accumulated his company and plenty of wealth.
I never believed the dates ever matched up!
Hope that is helpful.
It’s a strange one.
In an earlier episode this season Miles said that Widmore had been looking for the island for 20 years.
And I’m pretty sure Widmore confirmed this in the last episode (didn’t he tell Ben on the phone he’d been searching for 20 years?)
If it’s 2007 – that’d make the year he left 1987. Also, when Miles said it, it was 2004 (relatively) so that’d make the year 1984.
Either way, it can’t be right because the Purge was in 1992 and we saw Ben pushing Alex on the swings in New Otherton which should make it after the Purge.
Not to mention that Alex was born in 1988 so she’d be 4 when it’s 1992 (about the age of Alex when being pushed on the swings).
Unless the sub miraculousy goes back in time when leaving the island (which it might considering they knock people out for the journey??) then the dates are all wrong. :\
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea that they go to a different time when leaving the island… Hmm…
maybe widmore looked for the island while he took his trips off of it in preparation for being exiled? He had been traveling off island for a long time before the purge. This could also be the time he started accumulating wealth. However, i believe the others have a substantial amount of wealth (ben’s private room with money, miles demanding the money from him, ability to have mittelos bioscience front, etc.)
hmm that makes no sense if his trips were secret, then he must know how to get back, at least at that time…
Way to go emzi! I have been driving myself nuts over the very same issues, because of the dates.
I think we are being misled on the dates of some of the events, and some of the occurrences.
I wholeheartedly concur with your findings.
Those pesky writers got some ‘schplaining’ to do.
I’m actually confused about this now.
In The Life of and Death of JB, I’m sure Widmore told Locke that camera’s where in Tunisia because it was the exit from the island – hinting that Widmore himself had been there.
I got the impression he ended up there when Ben exiled him from the island, which gave me the impression he moved the island to get there.
Which, makes sense because he couldn’t seem to find the island after being exiled, and it would explain why he’s been looking for 20 years (we know that when people land in Tunisia they land in a different time – although in both Ben and Lockes case it’s been to the future).
But, we saw Widmore leaving on a sub. And if he’s been going to and from the island for years, what’s stopping him from coming back after being exiled?
Questions questions…
I was under the same impression as you were emzi, until this past episode.
Charles Widmore never turned the FDW, therefore he never would up in Tunisia.
I think the only reason he knows about Tunisia, is from the spies that he has watching, Ms. Hawking, and/or Daniel Faraday.
Hey, I have a theory… this will be the third thread I’ve mentioned it on… Maybe Charles was in cahoots with the DHARMA Initiative and that is the real reason he was frequently travelling off island. Maybe the DI was his family. Mayhaps the Others learned of this and purged the DI, forcing Charles to stick around for the show before shipping him off…
Anyway, Miles may have said he was looking for the isladn for 20 years without having knowledge that Charles was an Other and was often travelling back and forth to the island… He thinks that Charles has been searching for the island ever since his affiliation with the DHARMA Initiative began, possibly in 1984…
Dabs and Emzi, I had a different take on why Widmore had cameras in Tunisia…
1) The Polar Bear remains were there (am I wrong?) when Charlotte discovered them
and more importantly,
2)Ben ended up in Tunisia in 2005 when he turned the wheel. Locke ended up in Tunisia in 2007 when he turned the wheel. That gives Widmore two years to have figured out where Ben ended up, especially since he knew that Ben was off island quite soon after Ben arrived into 2005.
Number 3 is a stretch hypothesis, but I am wondering if part of how Widmore figures out that Tunisia is a ‘landing point’ (for lack of a better term) could also have to do with the pendulum that helps detect where the island is. Perhaps there is a counterpoint to the location of the island that would be it’s ‘exit’ location or something. But now I’m dabbling in things that I know nothing of…
There’s my 2 cents on it.
All the time discrepancies for the writers and Widmore is really good stuff to be cuing in on!
“Where did you get a gun?”
“I saw a guy lying there with an ankle holster, so I took the gun. Thought it might come in handy. Guess what. I just shot a bear!”
lol, one of my favorite lines ever…
The bears…why are you so smart Kim?…makes perfect sense…Charolette is working with Faraday, Faraday is working with Widmore…
Charolette went to Oxford, same place Faraday taught, and where Widmore payed for his research…they went on the trip together, blah, blah…
I think you nailed it Kim!
kimberly, I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying.
I had always thought that the way Ben tricked Widmore to leave ‘the island’, was by conning him into turning the FDW, and not by banishing him on the sub!
I think I had reached the same conclusion as most everyone else, that Widmore had ample time to have the exit point in Tunisia being watched!
That was what I was addressing.
One exit point! Tunisia!
