Namesakes
I think Lost may be what the writers thought might happen if they put a bunch of famous, very intelligent and out of this world personalities together. Google the names John Locke, Faraday, Ford, Jeremy Bentham, and the french ladies name. What happens when you put these famous historical figures together? LOST is the answer.

lol apparently John Locke the famous English philosopher’s writing influenced Voltaire and (get this) Rousseau.

Michael Faraday… really the only neat connection is the Faraday constant, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with constants in lost.

I get a bunch of sites to the car company when i search Ford…
I remember when Charles Whitmore gave John his new passport… the Jeremy Bentham one, he told him that since Locke’s parents named him with a sense of humor, he decided to do the same and name him after an English philosopher.

Kate Austin was the first feminist. 😛 actually I think she was just an advocate of women’s rights and anarchy. awesome.

Awesome Post.
Thank you, Soupertrooper. I do have something to add that I forgot to mention in my earlier post. There are alot of names and references to books and movies. Im sure everyone noticed Hugo’s refences to Star Wars. And I think Tom Sawyer is rather obvious. There are some more, though. Like Henry Gale (Gale as in Wizard of Oz?), and there is also Charlotte, whose initals are C.S. Lewis, (like the author of Narnia?). I’m sure there are more where that came from.
