Widmore … questions that may lead to answers …

1) He has an accent – but ‘others’ don’t. Was HE born on the island?
2) If not, can other’s leaders only be from off the island? (We know Ben & Locke were.)
3) How did he get to be the leader? (He is he seems at the totem pole bottom in the ’50s.)
4) How did he get so rich so fast? (Ben seems to have access to tons of $$$, too. Who’s funding? Did they have off-island access before the purge?)
5) If they can’t get off the island before the purge – who did he father off island and by whom?
6) Could he and Ben both be ‘the good guys’ who must win – though not working together? (They both want Locke back.)
7) Were ‘other’ leaders sent away? What happens to them?

I have more, but can’t think right now.

I DO think that ‘breaking the rules’ is putting something before the island.

  1. Question 4 – They had off island access as that is why Widmore was able to father a child to someone on the outside i.e Penny. When he is about to leave the island and we see him being escorted downt he pier it looks like the submarine in the background.

queston 5 – I’m 99.9% sure its Penny he fathered off island.

  2. 1. Widmore’s accent indicates that he was not born or raised on the island.

    2. Since, as you said, we know that Locke and Ben are/were leaders and neither are from the island, I’d say yes.

    3. I guess he was chosen by Richard or maybe by Jacob. Maybe he was part of a military force sent to the island, chosen and taken to the temple for a innocencectomy.

    4. I’m assuming that the Others have money. Could be from being around for so long. As the leader I guess they have access to that and maybe over their time as the leader they squirrel a bit out for themselves for when they get the axe.

    5. I think they can get off the island before the purge. After the purge they have the sub, sure, but we’ve seen that you can get off the island in a boat if you know the right direction to go.

    6. Yes.

    7. I guess they were sent away since there aren’t a whole bunch of them running around the island (that we know of anyway). Maybe they die and become one with the force and hang out on the island as a force ghost (like Christian maybe?).

  3. @ Highbrow

Maybe Jack’s loss of usefulness season 5 is like Locke’s loss of Faith in season 2. they will be tested and they will learn something new out of the chaos.

Not only will jack be more useful, he wont be such an unbeliever. And sawyer wont shun him anymore.

Also the only reason he was the leader was because he’s a doctor, and hes super good at making people better. All the same if he wasn’t elected the leader Locke, or Sayid probably would’ve been the leader.

I really should’ve made a new post for this.

  4. 4. I seem to recall somebody on Lost needing something like 3.6 million dollars or something like that a few seasons ago, in a flashback off the island.

    6. Yes. I never thought about it that way. But why would Ben still want to kill Penny if her father was really his ally?
