Jacob’s identity
So my brother was telling me he was watching a Lost podcast or something where the producers were talking. And apparently they said that we have seen Jacob already, in a non-speaking role. So a lot of people think that Jacob is Aaron, but now that Aaron talks… now there is one other character that is always never around when the smoke monster is present, and seems to have a connection with Christain prior to the island, who we know is connected to Jacob. And Damon Lindelof has stated that this character will survive through the end of season 6.
Vincent anyone?

bow wow
So my brother was telling me. NOTHING
Maybe he was being literal. Because we have seen Jacob now, I cannot remember if he spoke or not?
I think jacob did speak….am I wrong….where is cappayne with the facts?
Maybe John created Jacob when he told Richard about Jacob in 1954. Richard obviously seeing John being born 2 years from that day leads him to believe there is greater powers at work and Jacob is born. to explain the voice and the eye’s, well any spirit on the island could have done that to insure things get done, even further maybe John takes the roll of Jacob when he dies fully knowing that jacob doesnt exist (at that point)and must insure to tell him self to “Help Me” thus helping him self.
lostfreak- I have thought of that as well except it appears that Richard already knows of Jacob back in 1954…. as he was not surprised to hear Locke speak of him …in fact the mention of Jacob appears to already carry some weight back then.
cappayne, I believe what your brother heard about the character on Lost who will be sticking around to the end, is Vincent, the dog. It was mentioned in their recent podcast.
Jacob has spoken to John Locke, when Locke visited the cabin with Ben for the first time. He says, help me…….
I think it’s safe to say, Jacob has been around for a very long time. Maybe longer than Richard!
Hmm.. it’s true that Jacob did say “help… me…” There is still so much debate over who Jacob is. I’d like to discuss. So far the main candidates seem to be:
-Christain Shephard
-Jack Shephard
-Horace Goodspeed
-Vincent
-John Locke
-John Locke’s child
-Aaron
-Angelo Busoni
-A spirit that has no true form
-A fictitious character made up by Locke or Ben
And there are definately others that I might have forgot.
Excellent idea! My own preference would be closest to ‘A spirit that has no true form’, but not exactly.
I believe Jacob does use and utilize some of the characters, such as Christian who told Locke to move ‘the island’, and who also told Michael he could go. As in die.
He also has has used Walt on occasion. When Walt visits Locke in the pit after Ben shot him, etc.
And, I am on the side of Jacob is utilizing Vincent as well, on occasion. And, could be closer to Jacob than we are currently aware.
I’m not certain, but feel Richard Alpert, is Jacob’s personal ’emissary’ of sorts.
With all these phrases of what “the Island wants” or how “it won’t let you…” it’s somehow save to assume the Island has it’s own mind. So, why not go there and consider the Island itself a character, appearing in a non-speaking role?
My interpretation is simply Jacob being the Island’s manifested consciousness / spirit.
Well, for the time being, anyway, until the show offers more evidence of “him” actually being connected to one single HUMAN character.
Benipulation…yari. These people swing from Ben so hard. They would believe anything he says. The island, i believe has power, but not a mind. Think. The island wont let you leave/return. The island wont let you die. The island nothing. Ben knows about the ability the island has and exploits it for personal gain.
as for Jacob. I think he is either a man or Bens wizard. He is referred to as a man by Ben and I believe Mikaihl, a great man to be exact. Im not ruling out spirit as a soul lost in time without a body, but I dont think of him as a ghost or anything like that. at least in the typical ghost context, althouh it could explain ‘ghosts’ as we know them. but if he were a spirit or something of that nature, wouldnt they play him as one. Yeah, it may not be as belivable as a man, but it would cause for a lot less doubt in terms of his greatness or power, no?
Good point AES on the “great man” part. So I think that if Ben or Mikhael ever praised/criticized a man in the Lostiverse, they can either be considered or rejected (respectively) as who Jacob is.
Since Ben says negative things about Jack, I’d like to think that jack is not (the GREAT MAN) Jacob.
tisk tisk, we do not know that the great deciever can truly see jacob for what he truly is, if at all. I trust he can hear him as Locke could, but the way they argued about bringing Locke to the cabin (yes i am using Ben arguing with an invisible man as a reference), it just seemed so, i dont know…weird.
But what you say of the praised/critisized thing, that is interesting. Would Ben sass his great master, if he knew him in a previous life, knowing what Jacob was capable of later on? very interesting.
