What Lies in the Shadow of the Statue
Just a small theory. When asked “what lies in the shadow of the statue?” Richard(I’ll give ten points to anyone who can name the abysmal sitcom he used to play in, Hint: Brooke Shields starred) replied: “Ille qui nos omnes servabit.” Which, by being fluent in looking up things on the internet, I know to translate as “He who will protect us all.” Jacob right? Nope. Jacob was living underneath or in the statue, so he can’t very well “lie in the shadow” of something he lies underneath or inside of. I only saw one “he” lying in the shadow of that statue in that last episode and that “he” was John Locke. And by the way, where the hell is Claire?!!?
are you reffering to John Locke (deceased) lying in the shadow of the statue, if so, how can a dead man protect them all?
In the beginning of the Incident episode, Jacob actually seems to be lying around a lot in the vicinity of the statue.
John Locke on the other hand, may be lying dead on the beach, but not really in the shadow of the statue I suppose, since there is no longer any statue there.
A dead man can protect them all by being the vessel that Jacob uses to come back to life. That’s the reason that Locke was “special” and bringing his body to the statue was what Jacob needed Ilana to do.

the question of “what lies in the shadow of the statue” is very ambiguous.
for instance, because if it was a human, surely the question would be “who lies in the shadow of the statue”
also, when and which shadow?
as in, a shadow can be cast at diffrent times in the day. and which side of the shadow.
so, in these ways, can we assume at only a certain point in time,or in the day, is a shadow cast to reveal the pondered question?
and what could it be?

I think that in such riddles, “lies” could simply mean resides, and shadow simply means light is blocked by said object.
It is certainly possible that this could, and probably is referring to Jacob. After all, if you are under or inside of, a rock, or any other object, which blocks the light from reaching you, you are essentially in its shadow.
I have a few reasons to back this up:
1. It appears to be a way for followers of JACOB to identify themselves with each other, a verbal “secret handshake” if you will. The others clearly believe that they are following Jacob, and Jacob lives in the statue, why would they have a riddle that identifies someone else than their leader?
2. Jacob’s followers all have to learn Latin, its their secret language to communicate with each other.
3.Locke is dead, and as Ben said, there’s no coming back from dead. And Richard seems to agree. (He was quite surprised to learn Locke died.)
I would be surprised if Locke saved anyone at this point.
I think that John’s part isn’t over and that naterulz is not so wrong. Will John save them all, I don’t know. But even if nobody can come back from death, why is John physically still there? I mean why bring John’s body back to the statue? A lot of people died on the island and for them is just over. Is it just “innocent” that John is still there? And, don’t forget what Walt told John. I don’t remember exactly what he said. But it was something like this: John, I see you on the island, and a lot of people want to harm you. Was Walt refering to “fake John”? I am not so sure. Coz Walt, as mysterious as he is, has some kind of connection with Locke, the real one. And I feel a little confused with John being manipulated from the beginning. He had made the wrong choices but wanted to do the good. On the contrary, Ben volontary has chosen the bad side. For me, they are opposite Characters, and i won’t be surprise that they both meet in the last season.
My mom thinks that What Lies in the Shadow of the Statue is used symbolically, meaning that what lies in the shadow would be a person that is overshadowed by another, in this case, we’re always pointed to Jacob as the leader, however Richard seems to convey Jacob’s messages.
She thinks that the comment Sayid makes to Jack in the Barracks about Hiding in Plain Sight, could refer to Richard hiding in plain sight as the real leader.
