The Restoration of Adam Kadmon

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image……”

Whether this is the exact text of Genesis 1:26 in your bible or not, I believe it to be the central theme in LOST.

  1. Hi Chief. My interpretation may be way off, because this is the first time I’ve ever read anything on this subject.

But I think Hurley is like the rest of us in the view of Kaballistic Judaism. He’s a human being that is conscious of things and exists in physical form but his body is really a “husk” that traps his soul. When his physical body dies, the spirit lives but enters a new body with a new set of challenges unless he has learned fully. Currently, we know that husk and spirit as Hurley. As he learns over time, his consciousness comes closer to the original blueprint of man, Adam Kadmon. Hurley is a missing piece of Adam Kadmon that searches to become “one”, or whole. When “Hurley” (the spirit) has reached the highest level of consciousness, he rejoins Adam Kadmon.

Since Adam Kadmon is part of the Infinite, the Infinite becomes closer to whole. So in this way, Hurley’s individual actions are important to God. Hurley and a lot of our Losties appear to be close to a higher level of consciousness. When fully conscious, concepts such as time and space are eroded. Maybe Hurley can “talk” to Charlie and others who have died because his conscious being is close to being one with them all. But his mind can’t handle that yet and requires him to see them in the form that he’s always seen them… their physical body.

When the spirit rejoins the Infinite, perhaps there is a flash of light….

  2. stillost, thanks for incorporating the teachings of The Kaballah into a theory for us.

We have seen many religious/spiritual influences in Lost, and I have to believe this is one of them. Your interpretation of the teachings, is written and expressed beautifully!

The philosophies of Carl Jung were highlighted early on in the series, and it is a pleasure to see how you ‘married’ the two together!

    Nice work!

  3. This is quite a read, rather enjoyable as well. For whatever reason Hurley crossed my mind when I read the theory, so I figured I’d ask, and I appreciate the answer. This island can be SO many things as of now. A Garden of Eden type of place is lookin more and more like a possible answer after all these years, and I’d love to see that be the case by the time this show is done. Whatever the island ends up being, I’m sure it’s going to be shown to us in a very epic style.
