Why sun didn’t flash

Hello everyone,

I’m new on this site and this is the first theory I post. I have the read the site for some time now, but I didn’t have the time to read everything, so all my excuses if this has been submitted before. Also, I’m French, and my English is not perfect, so I will ask for your forgiveness for any weird sentences, or words that could be used in a wrong meaning.

So, about Sun. I like the explanation about John simply asking them to come back or not, but I noticed something more. What if the Losties are flashing because they were supposed:

  1. not to live the Island
  2. to travel through time with Sawyer, Juliet and Co,
  3. arrive in 1974 and spend three years in DI,
  4. and finally be present in 1977 to activate Jughead ?

If Jack, Hurley, Kate and Saïd had stayed, they would have ended in the same place, in 1977, and they could have activated the bomb (or at least try, as we don’t know yet if it worked).

BUT (and that’s my point), if Sun had also stayed, she would probably have died from being pregnant. The baby was conceived on the island, and we don’t know if traveling through time and giving birth in 1974 would have been enough to save her. Maybe the problem appears directly after you become pregnant but only kills you a few month later, if you stay on the island.

My guess is that he would have died, and that’s why she didn’t flash. There is two paths leading to 1977 : either stay on the island and flash through time until you reach 1974, or get off the island, take Ajira 316 and flash directly in 1977. As the first path would have killed her, she could not take the second.

So, what do you think ? Does it make any kind of sense ?

By the way, does it seem odd to anyone that it doesn’t matter which of those two paths the Losties take, they all spend three years between the crash of O815 and the explosion of Jughead. I mean, Ajira 316 could have “flash them” in 1974, or 75 (or 76, but you get the point :p), and Jack would have lived three more year than Sawyer for example. It is a very strange coincidence that they flash at a point in time when they both haven’t seen each other for about the same amount of time (does it make sense ?). What I mean is that when Locke sees Widmore after getting out of the island, he hasn’t seen him for like 3 days (don’t remember exactly), but Widmore hasn’t seen Locke for 50 years (or so, but you get the point).

When Jack meet Sawyer again, Jack hasn’t seen Sawyer in 3 years, and Sawyer hasn’t seen Jack in 3 years. Odd, isn’t it ?

Well, now, I can’t wait to read what you think of that.

  1. maybe. or maybe in order to flash she needed her baby with her. she left pregnant, and therefore didnt ocme back “whole”. im not really sure but the three year thing might show that their fates are linked.

  2. I guess every theory now must come with a question.
Are you a alternate time liner or not?
Because I would want to know how this fits in with an alternate time line.
The three year difference for both groups is very interesting. Does it have significance. If not the show won’t address it.
My theory is that she is needed in 2007 on the island, and by course correction she stays instead of flashes. The reason she is needed from time line A is because she is already dead in time line B by 2007.

  3. I think the 3 year difference is to show us that even though the island and ‘real world’ are in different times, time moves at the same speed in both. So if 2 years passes on the island, 2 years passes for people off the island (as long as the island isn’t ‘jumped’ around). Could be onto something with Sun, course correction could explain why she needs to not die, and therefore can’t go back in time.

  4. I think you write in English really well, I know if I had to write in French well, I just wouldnt!

When does LOST start for you? Feb 2nd as well or no?

  5. I’ve already said my piece on why I think Sun didn’t flash, but I feel I need to comment, because BanLinus’ comment is hilarious… He’s right, all the theories now hinge on that question… That’s all I had to say… and overall, the theory is a good one… nice work.

  6. Thanks everyone for your comments on my first post.
Joshcgs : Lost starts in France much later, and actually I don’t even know when (maybe something like a couple months). Anyway episodes airing in France are dubbed in French, and I hate not to hear the real voices of the actors. So I’m waiting for February the 3rd and I’ll watch it on the Internet then.
BanLinus : I’m not really decided on the alt time line or WHH yet. I will probably post something later today about it, it has been in my mind for quite some time, but I want to write it properly.

  7. I watched a lost special after season 5 where Darlton answered some questions.

One of the questions was “Why didn’t Sun go back in time?”.

They answered and said it was because the circumstances of Flight 815 weren’t 100% re-created with 316.
